Between the reckless marketing of GLP-1 and the quiet rise of SkinnyTok,
I’ve been seeing more and more people asking about it, starting it and hope it’ll be the solution.
I understand.
It sounds promising.
And honestly, my own views on GLP-1 have shifted as more research has come through.
So let me be clear about where I stand.
I’m not against GLP-1 RA medication as a medication class.
It’s a very effective in diabetes management, and there’s emerging evidence supporting its assistance role in binge eating treatment.
What I don’t support is the marketing - what it’s trying to promote.
The message that GLP-1 should be used to pursue a smaller body brings our understanding of health back 50 years “lower weight = healthier”
And the regulation around who can prescribe it, when, and how, needs urgent review.
I currently work with clients using GLP-1, mostly for diabetes, some to assist with binge eating disorder treatment.
In every case, we spend significant time in session unpacking their expectations, addressing the unrealistic ones, and navigating the side effects together.
Because we deserved the unfiltered message to make informed decisions
All my clients who start recovery who learn about what contribute and maintain their food and body struggle will understand why GLP-1 will only assist treatment, not as the treatment.
It’s the nutrition and psychological work that fundamentally heals binge eating and your relationship with food and body.
