Imagine having to plan your life around avoiding all light.
That is reality for many living with erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP).

The rare metabolic disorder causes a build-up of the chemical protoporphyrin IX, which is highly reactive to the sun, resulting in severe inflammation and pain after only a few minutes of sun exposure.

People living with EPP often wear protective clothing and stay indoors to avoid sunlight, which can negatively impact their mental wellbeing.
