Six weeks after I was told I had a 50% chance of walking again β I ran. πΏ
I want to share the story of the six weeks that changed everything for me.
In 2009, I was 29 years old, paralysed, and lying in a hospital bed being offered a probability.
Fifty percent chance of ever walking again.
I chose to focus on the other fifty. π
Here's what I want every woman navigating chronic illness or autoimmune symptoms to hear.
I did not stop my medical treatment.
I did not turn my back on the care team who had been with me for five years.
I did not believe I could think my way out of a serious diagnosis.
What I did was add another layer to the extraordinary care I was already receiving.
I was raised in a family that supported a balanced approach β Eastern and Western medicine working together. I knew, intuitively and intellectually, that the body holds stress in ways blood tests cannot measure. That the nervous system's state influences recovery in ways that are profound.
So alongside my medical treatment, I went deep into the work on my nervous system, my energetic body, my emotional patterns, and the layers my system had been holding for years.
I studied Sports Kinesiology.
I worked with the places where fear had calcified into physical bracing.
I took a balanced approach to maximise healing.
Six weeks later β I walked out of rehabilitation under my own power. Then I ran. πΏ
Modern medicine held one part.
The deeper work held another.
Together, they created something neither could have created alone.
Sixteen years later, I remain in full remission.
Not because of any single treatment.
Because every layer of me was finally being supported. π
If you are living with a condition that has been labelled chronic, progressive or treatment-resistant β please know this:
The label is not the limit.
There is always more that can be layered gently and thoughtfully into the excellent work you may already be doing.
