Does electrolysis work for someone with PCOS?

One of the common symptoms of PCOS is excessive hair growth on the face and certain areas of the body, a condition known as hirsutism.

Electrolysis is a highly effective treatment for managing unwanted hair on both the face and body. It works by slowing regrowth, reducing hair density, and ultimately destroying existing hair follicles.

Although electrolysis is FDA-approved for permanent hair removal, clients with underlying hormonal imbalances—such as PCOS—may still require occasional maintenance treatments after completing a full course of sessions as new follicles may still be influenced by hormones.

Maintenance vary from person to person and may range from every few months to every couple of years.

For best results, it’s also recommended that clients seek medical guidance to help manage PCOS symptoms alongside electrolysis treatments.

One of our lovely clients that we met in March after just 2 laser treatments! For many clients with dense/ coarse facial hair, laser can be an incredibly effective first step in the hair removal journey ✨ In these early stages, the focus is often on bulk reduction — decreasing the amount of hair, slowing the growth cycle, and softening/ thinning the hairs to make the transition into electrolysis far more manageable.

This is why treatment planning matters. Not all laser treatments, or clinics, are the same. Results like this come from understanding the individual client in front of us and adjusting treatment settings accordingly.

We carefully adjust multiple parameters based on skin type, hair density, hair depth, hormonal influences, sensitivity, and response to treatment to achieve safe and effective outcomes.

Laser isn’t always the entire solution, but for the right candidate it can dramatically reduce the workload before moving into more detailed clearing with electrolysis if needed.
