πŸ“I'd love to be part of more GP referral conversations 🀍

Most people picture OT as splints and home mods (rightly so β€” huge part of what we do). What's less known is that OT can also be Better Access endorsed, meaning we're able to see patients under a Mental Health Care Plan alongside psychologists and accredited mental health social workers.

In perinatal mental health specifically, I think we bring something genuinely complementary β€” working with the sensory and nervous systems, the identity shift, the return to daily function, the co-occupations with baby, alongside the emotional piece.

Not here to replace anyone in the referral pathway, just want to be an option in it. If you're a GP and this is useful to know, I'd love to connect with you.

Motherhood prep has its priorities backwards! All the emphasis goes into the shower and the birth plan, very little of it into who's actually going to hold you, once the dust settles. And I don't just mean within the first 8 weeks.

I see the parts nobody warns you about... the identity stuff, the nervous system stuff, the "who even am I now" stuff.

You don't need to be in crisis to deserve support. Prevention is healthcare too!

That's the work I do.

These are the things I won't budge on.

Intuition first.
Your goals, not mine to assign.
A real human face, not a therapy mask.
No self-blame allowed in this room. And yes, there will be tea and Tim Tams involved 🍡

This is me, non-negotiables and all. 🀍
What's yours?? For yourself, not just your practitioners?

"Motherhood cracked me open."
We say it like it's a throwaway line. A neat little sentence for the caption of a sunset photo with a baby on our hip.
But what if we actually sat with it?

Because "cracked me open" is doing a lot of quiet, heavy lifting. It might mean:
β†’ My identity just got rearranged and I don't recognise the floor plan anymore.
β†’ The stuff I thought I'd healed? It's back. Turns out motherhood doesn't ask permission before reopening old rooms.
β†’ The gap between what I expected and what I got is bigger than anyone warned me about.
β†’ My values got flipped upside down and I'm still working out which way is up.
β†’ I can suddenly see my purpose, my meaning, what actually matters β€” so clearly it's almost too much to hold.
β†’ I don't have the language for this. "Cracked open" is the closest I can get.
β†’ I'm lonely and I don't know how to say that out loud, so I say this instead.

Any one of these could be true. Some days, all of them are.
So next time you hear a mother say it β€” or catch yourself saying it β€” maybe don't let it slide past as a nice turn of phrase. Ask her what it means for her. Ask yourself what it means for you.

What does "cracked open" mean to you? Genuinely curious. πŸ‘‡

We know how the saying goes, "Mum's need other Mums". But what I've found in my own journey is that whilst this is true, I need other Mothers around me at a variety of ages and stages.

I think one of the things that bothers me most about stock standard Mother's groups is how homogeneous they can be.

Whilst I do not deny the benefit of connecting over shared lived experiences of being "in the thick of it". This can have the effect of compounding stressful or anxious feelings that come in early Motherhood. The opposite can also occur. Where everyone is so concerned about saying or doing the wrong thing, (because they are understandably vulnerable in this season) that noone shares anything at all. And if they do, it's often surface level. Stripping us of the chance for genuine, honest dialogue.

Having opportunities to be immersed amongst Mothers at a range of stages offers us perspective and wisdom. We can be assured of the ebb and flow of this lifelong role. Having someone hold space for you because they are just that little bit further down the track can be SO VALUBLE. If not to trouble shoot with you from the future..... to simply hold your hand and remind you, you will get through this!

Being surrounded by Mothers from a range of ages and stages is what re-villaging holds at its heart centre. And it is the gold we glean together in my mother's circle, Milk and Honey.

So the only question left to ask is. Will you join us? Aug 28th, Common Culture, 6pm to 8pm. You can find the link to book in my bio❀️

Stepping back from socials for the month. 🌿
I could dress this up, but the truth is simple: I'm in a full season of life, and my current clients need me present, not spread thin across a content calendar.

If I'm going to talk about slowing down, boundaries and tending to your own capacity β€” I have to actually do it. Otherwise what am I even doing here.

Email is the best way to reach me while I'm off here. I'll be back when it's time, not a day before.
Thank you for understanding 🀍

Does your measure of success need some reworking? My guess is, it's borrowed from Instagram, your mother-in-law, modern motherhood's endless BS!

Recognise that and you're already miles ahead in loosening mum guilt's grip.

Maybe I can't speak for all mental healthprofessionals, but here's my hot take:
..we are not tired of your story. Tell it again. And again. Every retelling softens the edges a little more. And maybe offers up some new insights 🀍
