Something to put in the diary for Sunday 20 September — the Richmond Wellness & Lifestyle Expo at Richmond Town Hall.

A big thank you to BM Wellness, Sun Empire and The Wellness Coach Hub for bringing together local businesses, practitioners and guest speakers for a day of meeting, sharing and connecting with the community.

I’m delighted to be part of the guest-speaker program, presenting Are You Working Harder Than You Need To? at 12:30 pm.

If you’re free, come along and support me! There’ll be plenty to explore throughout the day, and you can also drop by the AT Grace stand for a chat.

Sunday 20 September | 10 am–3:30 pm
Richmond Town Hall, 333 Bridge Road, Richmond

Hope to see you there.

A Curious Observation
A person can sit in a comfortable chair.
Have a supportive desk.
Own an ergonomic keyboard.
Use a standing workstation.
And still feel stiff and exhausted at the end of the day.
Why?
Because comfort is not always determined by what surrounds us.
Sometimes it is determined by what we do while using it.
- How we sit.
- How we breathe.
- How we concentrate
- How we respond to pressure.
Sometimes the biggest source of strain is invisible.
Until it isn't.

🌱 STARTING NEXT WEEK

One week to go.
Next Wednesday, we begin the first session of:
Technique of Stress Reduction
Over the next six weeks, participants will learn simple but powerful skills to help them:
✔ Reduce unnecessary tension
✔ Improve breathing
✔ Increase body awareness
✔ Improve focus and concentration
✔ Move with greater ease
✔ Develop lasting resilience

One of the most common things people discover is that much of their stress isn't caused by what is happening around them.
It's caused by what their body has learned to do in response.
The good news?
Those habits can be changed.
A few places are still available.

📅 Starts July 8

Breathing is automatic.
Yet it is surprisingly easy to interfere with.
Many people unconsciously pull air in when they are stressed.
Others hold their breath while concentrating.
Some tighten their abdomen in an attempt to "breathe correctly."
The body already knows how to breathe.
The more interesting question is:
What gets in the way?

Why "Sitting Up Straight" Often Doesn't Work

For generations, posture advice has sounded something like: "Sit up straight", “Shoulders back”.

So, people pull their shoulders back.
Tighten their muscles.
Hold themselves upright.
For a few minutes, it works.
Then fatigue arrives.
Good posture comes from balance, not from holding yourself in position.

The Jaw: An Overlooked Stress Barometer
When people think about stress, they often think about the mind.
When the body thinks about stress, it often thinks about the jaw.
The jaw has a remarkable ability to reveal what is happening elsewhere.
- Concentration.
- Frustration.
- Uncertainty.
- Pressure.
Many people can identify exactly when they began clenching their jaw.
Far fewer notice how long they continue afterwards.

Many people spend hours each day staring at screens.
Less obvious is what often happens at the same time.
The head moves closer.
The neck tightens.
The breathing becomes shallower.
Attention narrows.
The body begins organising itself around the screen.
Interestingly, eye strain is not always just about the eyes.
