Parkinson’s Disease
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a clinical history of over 1,800 years in managing conditions that resemble Parkinsonian syndromes. While its theoretical framework differs from modern neurological classifications, TCM has developed a structured approach based on pattern differentiation and individualized treatment.
Clinical experience suggests that some patients may notice changes within the first few weeks of herbal treatment, depending on the severity and duration of the condition. Treatment outcomes vary between individuals.
From a TCM perspective, many of the following conditions are understood within patterns involving internal wind, muscle spasm, or meridian dysfunction:
1. Spasmodic torticollis
2. Strabismus
3. Tetanus
4. Epilepsy
5. Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ)
6. Stuttering
7. Difficulty opening the mouth after radiotherapy
8. Masseter muscle spasm
9. Post-stroke speech impairment (dysarthria or trismus)
10. Bruxism
11. Claw hand deformity and scissor gait
Among more than forty commonly observed related presentations.
Clinical observations in practice indicate a high level of patient-reported improvement in symptom management. However, responses to treatment vary, and complete recovery cannot be guaranteed.
