Term 2 is when a lot of families realise the strategies they’ve been trying all year aren't really shifting things.

Reading still isn't coming together.
Mornings before school are still hard.
Friendships, focus or big feelings haven't settled.

It’s hard to know what to do next when you feel like you’ve already tried so many things. If something's been getting in the way, it's worth taking the next step.

A psychology assessment can help you understand what's happening for your child across learning, attention, behaviour and development, and what to do next. You don't have to commit to a full assessment to get started.

An initial consultation with one of our registered psychologists can give you clarity on whether a full assessment for ADHD, autism, learning differences or giftedness would help.

If this term has felt harder than it should, get started with a single session with one of our registered psychologists

Speech pathology helps with communication, feeding and swallowing, but what people usually notice first is what starts to feel easier day to day.

A conversation at the dinner table. Asking for help in class. Ordering food. Joining in with friends. Finishing a meal with less worry. These are the everyday moments that become more accessible when the right support is in place.

Speech pathology can help people be understood, feel less frustrated when communicating, and eat and drink with more comfort and confidence.

MTHC Speech Pathology is a health service affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Care is evidence-informed and always improving through teaching and research.

If you’re finding parts of daily life difficult or upsetting, take the next step and contact us. No referral needed, call or fill in our online enquiry form and we'll help guide you from there.

These are things occupational therapy can help with.
https://mthc.com.au/occupational-therapy/

Getting dressed, managing mealtimes, using the bathroom or settling into sleep are the rhythms of everyday life.

For some children, they take much more time, effort or support than expected.

MTHC Occupational Therapy is a health service affiliated with the University of Melbourne.

We work with each child to understand what's making everyday tasks feel hard, then find practical ways to build skills and confidence around it.

If every day routines are regularly taking a lot out of your child or your family, it's worth getting the right support.

We can help you understand what's getting in the way and what to do next.

You might notice your child, yourself or your loved one is hard to understand, gets upset when they cannot find the words or finds it hard to join in with others.

Or maybe mealtimes have become stressful, they can only swallow a small range of foods comfortably or eating and drinking feels harder than it should.

MTHC Speech Pathology is a health service affiliated with the University of Melbourne. Care is evidence-informed and always improving through teaching and research.

We can help you understand what is happening with communication, feeding and swallowing, then work out practical next steps that fit everyday life.

If you notice something that’s happening regularly or getting in the way of daily life or school, it is worth taking the next step.

The word "occupation" makes people think of jobs and careers. But in occupational therapy, also known as OT, occupation means everything that occupies a person's time.

https://mthc.com.au/occupational-therapy/

We look at how everyday differences are affecting your child and work with them to find ways to build practical skills to help them participate more confidently in life.

Whether it's learning to use a spoon, navigating a busy school day or enjoying a party without becoming overwhelmed, OT can help by building independence, skills and confidence.

We help when:

• everyday routines feel like a battle
• school feels consistently exhausting or difficult to get through
• certain environments feel overwhelming
• social situations feel confusing or uncomfortable
• everyday tasks feel physically hard or frustrating.

If something is happening regularly, troubling your child or getting in the way of daily life or school, it’s worth reaching out for support.

Sometimes occupational therapy is the right starting point, or sometimes we’ll guide you to another MTHC service, like speech pathology or psychology.

We can help you understand when support might be helpful and what to do next:

Not sure what to expect from occupational therapy?

bit.ly/4nPyLrj

Your first OT appointment is a chance to talk through what you've noticed and what's getting in the way of your child’s participation in everyday life.

While our OT Ben is talking with you, he'll have activities set up that are relevant to why you've come in.

He'll be watching how your child approaches different tasks, what they find easy and what they find hard. He might collect a handwriting sample. He also might ask your child what their goals are.

The aim is to get a clear picture of where things are at, without any pressure on your child.

By the end of the first session, you'll have a much clearer picture of what's happening and what support might look like from there.

One family Ben worked with really wanted to be able to enjoy meals at family restaurants, but the noisy and unpredictable environment often led to distress for their child.

When Ben spoke with the child, what they really wanted was to be able to join in Friday morning assembly with their peers.

You might think speech pathology is only for children who need help saying sounds clearly. It can be that, but it can also be much more.

MTHC Speech Pathology supports people with communication, feeding and swallowing across the lifespan.

That can include:

• being understood
• finding words
• understanding others
• reading and writing
• stuttering
• voice changes
• communication without speaking
• feeding and swallowing.

If something is getting in the way of everyday life, school, work, mealtimes or connection, it is worth taking the next step.

We can help you make sense of what you are seeing and find the right support.

Getting out the door in time for school. Moving from play to homework. Settling after a busy day. For some children, these transition moments are really challenging.

Occupational therapy can help identify what’s making transitions tough, whether it’s sensory processing, fatigue, routine changes or something else, and find practical strategies that make those moments easier to move through.

If transitions are regularly getting in the way of your child’s day at home or at school, it’s worth taking the next step.

Reach out to our team and we’ll help you understand what's going on and what to do next.
