LET’S TALK LIBIDO…
“Where the hell has my libido gone?”
It’s something I hear from women ALL the time through perimenopause and menopause.
And understandably, we immediately think hormones.
Is my oestrogen low?
What about testosterone?
Do I need HRT?
Is there a herb I can take?
And yes, hormones absolutely matter.
HRT can be incredibly helpful for some women, particularly when we’re dealing with vaginal dryness, painful s*x, poor sleep, hot flushes and all the other things that aren’t exactly helping us feel s*xy.
But here’s the part I think we need to talk about more…
Libido is about so much more than hormones.
If you’re exhausted, stressed out of your mind, not sleeping, uncomfortable during s*x, feeling disconnected from your body, carrying the mental load of 400 people, or things aren’t great in your relationship… finding the “right” supplement isn’t necessarily going to suddenly make you want to rip someone’s clothes off.
Sometimes, instead of only asking:
“What can I take to increase my libido?”
I ask:
“What might be getting in the way of it?”
And THAT can open up a completely different conversation.
Hormones matter.
But so do your nervous system, your energy, your sleep, your physical comfort, your relationship, your emotional wellbeing and how you feel in your own body.
Female desire is not a single hormone.
It’s part of the whole woman.
Did your libido change during perimenopause or menopause?
What made the biggest difference for you?
