Building capacity for translational simulation 🏥

A new study by Victoria Brazil and others, explores how healthcare organisations can build capacity for translational simulation, with a particular focus on the role of faculty development.

Drawing on experiences from Australian simulation programs, the authors identified five key themes influencing capacity building, including strategy and leadership, organisational context, trigger events and the importance of relationships, mentorship and shared language.

The findings highlight that faculty development is most effective when embedded within broader organisational systems that actively support translational simulation practice.

Can researchers tell the difference between AI and human qualitative analysis? 🤖

A recent study by Alexandra T. Lucas and others, explored whether experienced qualitative researchers could distinguish between human-generated and ChatGPT-4o-generated qualitative content analysis of a simulation debriefing.

Only three out of five reviewers correctly identified the AI-generated analysis — and interestingly, three out of five actually preferred the AI analysis.

While the findings highlight AI’s potential to support qualitative research, they also reinforce the importance of human oversight, particularly when interpreting context, emotional nuance and less obvious but potentially important themes.
