We’d like to introduce Mia Spencer, our newest physiotherapist at Melbourne C*D Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine Clinic.

Mia brings elite team-sport experience to the clinic, having worked with the Western Bulldogs AFLW and VFL programs, Hockey Victoria’s U14 and U18 national squads, and the Sydney Swans AFLW. She also contributes to AFL injury prevention and rehabilitation research.

Mia’s clinical focus covers hip, groin and lower limb rehabilitation, including post-surgical care following hip arthroscopy, adult musculoskeletal assessment, and paediatric physiotherapy. She has particular experience managing hip and groin injuries in athletic populations and supporting young people through early intervention and developmental movement programs.

Outside the clinic, Mia is a competitive sprinter competing on the Victorian Athletic League professional circuit and through Athletics Victoria. She brings that first-hand experience of training load and return-to-sport directly into how she works with her patients.

Lower back pain is one of the most common complaints we see in distance runners and one of the most misunderstood.

Richard Johnston knows this better than most. As a Physio and a distance runner (half mara PB of 70:26 and a mara PB of 2:26) who has managed lower back pain for over 10 years, Richie brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to this one.

In this video he covers how lower back pain typically presents in runners, how he has personally managed it, and the approach he takes with his own patients at the clinic.

You don’t have to choose between managing pain and chasing big goals.

→ If you’re a runner dealing with persistent lower back pain, book in with Richie via the link in bio.
