📢 Big NDIS Changes Are Coming – What Do They Mean for You?
The Australian Government has announced significant changes to the NDIS, with reforms rolling out progressively from 2026 onwards.
Here are some of the key changes in simple terms:
💰 Social & Community Participation – funding allocations will be reduced as affected plans are renewed or reassessed.
🧾 90-day claiming rule – from December 2026, NDIS claims will generally need to be submitted within 90 days of the support being delivered.
🔄 Unused funding – from February 2027, unused funding will no longer roll over when a plan is renewed.
📝 New planning system – from April 2027, a new support needs assessment will progressively be used to help determine participant budgets.
🏢 More provider oversight – provider enrolment and mandatory registration requirements will expand for certain supports.
👤 NDIS eligibility changes – from January 2028, access will focus more strongly on how a permanent disability affects a person’s functional capacity in everyday life.
👧 Changes for younger children – children aged 8 and under with developmental delay or autism and lower support needs may increasingly receive support through Thriving Kids, while children with significant or high support needs may remain eligible for the NDIS.
❤️ Importantly, the Government says critical disability supports, such as personal care, cleaning, community nursing, mobility equipment and essential 24-hour care, will continue to be protected.
These changes will not all happen at once, and some details are still being developed..
