“By the way syndrome” is when patients bring up important concerns right at the end of an appointment — often with a quick “oh, by the way…”. It can make it harder to fully assess and manage the issue properly. Research shows this happens in around 21% of visits, and overall in up to 39% of clinical encounters. It’s also been found that patients may only recall about 50% of what’s discussed during an appointment, which can contribute to things being left unsaid.

To get the most out of your appointment, come prepared with any questions or concerns you want to cover, and don’t be afraid to raise them early. If something comes to mind later, speak up — your clinician wants to hear it. Clear communication goes both ways, and making sure everything is addressed helps lead to better outcomes.

Start your recovery with support that’s tailored to you. Book online today.

Exciting news, introducing our new physiotherapist; Darren Fung! 👋

Darren joins the team with a Doctor of Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne, along with additional training in neurology and disability. He brings a wide range of experience across private practice, public hospital settings, and Community Rehabilitation at Austin Health, where he supports people with more complex needs to regain independence and function.

Clinically, Darren has a special interest in persistent pain, running-related injuries, shoulder presentations, vestibular disorders, stroke rehabilitation and neurological conditions. He has also worked with athletes from Richmond Football Club and Port Melbourne Soccer Club, and loves helping everyday athletes and weekend warriors get back to doing what they enjoy.

Outside the clinic, Darren keeps active with running, tennis and snowboarding, and enjoys travelling whenever he gets the chance.

We’re so thrilled to have Darren on board, join us in giving him a warm welcome to the Continuum team!

"Most people get this wrong when it comes to pain and recovery.

At Continuum, we hear these myths every day — and they can actually slow your progress down.

• Rest isn’t always the answer — the right kind of movement matters
• Strength training isn’t harmful — it’s one of the most effective tools for long-term health
• Exercising with some pain can be safe — and sometimes even beneficial
• Walking alone isn’t enough — strength and control are just as important

The key is knowing what your body needs and our team of experts can help you. Book an appointment with us via our website, link in bio.

“POV: A split-second impact… and the road back begins 🦵

From a lateral knee blow causing a valgus stress → to a confirmed MCL injury, this is what a safe, structured return to sport actually looks like 👇

✔️ Early-stage: bracing to support healing
✔️ Mid-stage: rebuilding strength above & below the knee (and matching the uninjured side)
✔️ Final-stage: sport-specific drills — change of direction, landing, contact
✔️ + the part people forget: restoring confidence to step back on the field

Can Pilates help back pain?

Short answer: yes — when it’s done properly and tailored to you.

It’s not just about stretching or strengthening. It’s about understanding why your pain is there in the first place. That’s where proper assessment and clinical reasoning come in.

At Continuum, we take a structured approach:
• Understand your pain and what’s driving it
• Assess how your body moves and where imbalances sit
• Build a personalised plan that actually works for you

No two backs are the same — your treatment shouldn’t be either.

Desk feeling a little too comfortable lately?

If you’re getting stiff, tight or sore from sitting all day — try these quick stretches:

✨ Thoracic rotations
✨ Chest openers
✨ Figure 4 stretch

Just a few minutes can help loosen your spine, open up your chest, and relieve tension through your hips + glutes.

Small habits = big difference when it comes to your body!

Save this for your next desk break ✔️

Sore neck after scrolling all day? You’re not alone.

When your head tilts forward, it puts significantly more pressure on your neck (think: holding a bowling ball all day). Over time, those muscles become tired, tight and sore.

The fix doesn’t have to be complicated:
• Bring your phone up to eye level
• Take breaks every 20 minutes
• Strengthen your neck and shoulders

Small changes now can prevent bigger pain later.

Your neck will thank you.
