If every food feels like a trigger, it might not just be the food. ๐Ÿ’œ

Your nervous system can also influence how reactive your body feels. When it's stuck in a constant state of protection, symptoms can become harder to settle, even when your diet is "perfect." ๐Ÿง

BrainFood helps you:
โœจ Understand why your nervous system matters
๐Ÿง˜ Calm an overactive stress response
๐ŸŒฟ Reduce the cycle of fear and food reactions
๐Ÿ’ช Build resilience over time
๐Ÿฅ— Support your body alongside your nutrition

Food is the foundation. But lasting healing often means looking beyond food alone. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿค” Should you avoid soy if you have histamine intolerance?
The answer isn't as simple as yes or no.

๐ŸŒฑ Soy contains phytoestrogens...
But that's only part of the story.
Some soy foods are also fermented, and fermentation naturally increases histamine levels.

โš ๏ธ Higher histamine soy foods include:
โ€ข Miso
โ€ข Tempeh
โ€ข Soy sauce
These may trigger symptoms in some people with histamine intolerance.

โœ… Lower histamine soy options may include:
โ€ข Fresh tofu
โ€ข Fresh edamame
โ€ข Unsweetened soy milk
These are often better tolerated, but not by everyone.

๐Ÿ’œ Here's the important part...
Even lower histamine soy foods can still cause symptoms for some people.
Tolerance varies from person to person.

๐Ÿฆ  Why?
Your gut health, DAO activity, hormone balance, mast cell activity and overall histamine threshold all influence how you respond.

๐Ÿšซ Avoid blanket food rules.
A food isn't "good" or "bad" just because it's soy.
The goal is to understand your body's response.

๐Ÿ’œ Personal tolerance always comes first.
There's no one-size-fits-all approach to histamine intolerance.

โœจ "I came to BrainFood feeling stuck, overwhelmed and afraid of food." L.K.

Living with mast cell activation and histamine intolerance had left L.K. feeling restrictive, fearful and exhausted from trying to make sense of so much conflicting information.

Since completing BrainFood, they've experienced:
๐Ÿ’œ More confidence around food
๐ŸŒฟ Significant improvement in silent reflux
โœจ No more itching or stomach pain
๐Ÿ‘ƒ Runny nose while eating has stopped
โšก More energy throughout the day
๐Ÿง  Greater awareness of unhelpful brain loops
๐Ÿค More confidence to reconnect with life and step out of isolation

One of my favourite parts of this story is that the changes extended far beyond physical symptoms.

By calming the nervous system and changing the way the brain responds to perceived threats, this client created the foundations for both mind and gut healing.

Every journey is different, but stories like this show what's possible with the right support. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŒฑ Phytoestrogens: Which Foods Contain Them?

๐Ÿซ˜ Soy Foods
Some of the richest sources include:
โ€ข Soybeans
โ€ข Tofu
โ€ข Edamame
โ€ข Soy milk

๐ŸŒฟ Fermented Soy Foods
These are also rich in phytoestrogens:
โ€ข Tempeh
โ€ข Miso
โš ๏ธ These foods are also higher in histamine due to fermentation.

๐ŸŒพ Seeds
Phytoestrogens are naturally found in:
โ€ข Flaxseeds (linseeds)
โ€ข Sesame seeds

๐Ÿซ› Legumes
Other good sources include:
โ€ข Chickpeas
โ€ข Lentils

๐ŸŒธ Other Sources
You'll also find phytoestrogens in:
โ€ข Red clover
โ€ข Alfalfa sprouts

โš ๏ธ If you have histamine intolerance...
Not every phytoestrogen-rich food will suit everyone.
Some people tolerate fresh tofu or chickpeas well.
Others may find they trigger symptoms.

๐Ÿ’œ Remember...
There isn't a one-size-fits-all food list.

Read more about the benefits of Phytoestrogens in this month's blog, comment OESTROGEN and I'll send you the link.

3 symptoms people don't realise can be histamine related ๐Ÿคฏ:

๐ŸŒธ Flushing
If your face suddenly becomes hot and red after eating, drinking alcohol or exercising, histamine may be playing a role.

๐Ÿ˜ฐ Anxiety after eating
Histamine acts as a neurotransmitter, so for some people, higher histamine levels may contribute to feeling anxious, restless or "wired."

๐Ÿค• Headaches after leftovers
Histamine levels naturally increase in many foods as they age. For some people, leftovers can be a surprising trigger.

๐Ÿ’œ Histamine intolerance doesn't always look like hives or digestive symptoms. It can affect your skin, brain, nervous system and much more.

Tired of battling histamine symptoms without a clear plan and unsure of what to eat? Comment REBOOT and take control of your health and say goodbye to confusion and uncertainty.

Common Food Sources of Phytoestrogens ๐ŸŒฑ

Phytoestrogens are natural plant compounds found in foods like:
๐Ÿซ˜ Soybeans
๐Ÿฅข Tofu
๐ŸŒฑ Tempeh (H)
๐Ÿซ› Edamame
๐Ÿฅฃ Miso (H)
๐Ÿฅ› Soy milk
๐ŸŒพ Flaxseeds (linseeds)
โœจ Sesame seeds
๐Ÿง† Chickpeas
๐Ÿซ˜ Lentils
๐ŸŒธ Red clover
๐Ÿฅ— Alfalfa sprouts

โš ๏ธ If you have histamine intolerance, remember that not all phytoestrogen-rich foods are equally tolerated.

For example:
๐Ÿšซ Fermented soy foods like miso and tempeh are fermented and naturally higher in histamine.
โœ… Foods like fresh tofu, chickpeas and lentils may be tolerated by some people, but not everyone.

๐Ÿ’œ Your tolerance depends on your individual histamine threshold, gut health, stress load, symptoms and overall health. What works for one person may not work for another.

Are you eating any of these foods?

๐Ÿฉท Save this one for later.

๐Ÿ’ญ MYTH: You have to stay on a strict low histamine diet forever.
This is one of the most common myths I hear.

Some people are placed on an extremely restrictive diet and told this is their new normal.
โš ๏ธ The problem?

Long-term restriction can lead to:
๐Ÿฅ— Nutritional deficiencies
๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Food anxiety
๐Ÿ‘ฅ Social isolation
๐Ÿฆ  Reduced gut microbiome diversity
๐Ÿ’œ A low histamine diet is usually designed to be temporary.

It's a tool to help identify your triggers, reduce your histamine load and support healing.
โœจ The goal isn't to eliminate more and more foods.
๐ŸŒฟ The goal is to restore tolerance and enjoy the widest variety of foods your body can comfortably handle.
