You don’t need to feel confident all the time to perform well.

The goal isn’t to never doubt yourself. It’s to know how to reset after mistakes, manage pressure and refocus on the next moment when doubt shows up.

That’s a skill. And it can be trained.

If you often get stuck in the cycle of mistake → overthinking → doubt, DM me PERFORMANCE and I’ll send you the details.

Your brain is part of your performance toolkit. 🧠

And the good news? You can train it.

Three simple places to start:

1ļøāƒ£ Visualise your sport vividly.
Don’t just picture the outcome. Rehearse the sights, sounds, feelings and actions of performing at your best.

2ļøāƒ£ Build a stronger self-image.
The story you repeatedly tell yourself about who you are as an athlete influences how you show up. Start paying attention to that story.

3ļøāƒ£ Train your self-talk.
Your brain is always listening. Give it useful instructions, especially when pressure hits.

The goal isn’t to ā€œthink positive.ā€ It’s to deliberately train the thoughts, images and narratives that support the performance you want.

What’s one of these three you could start practising this week? Share this with your teammates and coaches to help them along.

Overthinking before competition isn’t a personality trait. It’s a skill gap.

You don’t need to stop the thoughts. You need to know what to do with them.

These are 5 of my favourite tools for helping athletes shift from overthinking → performing.

Before my 10K time trial, I made a decision:

I wasn’t going to look at my data.

No pace targets.
No previous times.
No predictions about what I ā€œshouldā€ be capable of.

Instead, I wanted to run without constantly measuring myself against what I’d done before.

And I ran significantly better than I expected.

It reminded me of something I see with athletes all the time:

Sometimes the limitation isn’t your capacity. It’s the story you’ve attached to it.

Data is incredibly useful. But it should inform your performance — not define it.

So maybe the question isn’t ā€œWhat does the data say I can do?ā€

Maybe sometimes it’s:

ā€œWhat if I’m capable of more?ā€

Doubt your limitations.
Not your capacity.

For many tomorrow is the last game of the season.. and your last game matters.

Not just because it’s the end of the season — but because it’s one of the experiences your brain will carry into the next one.

So don’t rush it. Don’t overthink it. Don’t make it about the result.

Embrace it like you did your first.

Play. Compete. Enjoy it.

Because the way you finish can become the feeling you start with next season.

The mental skills I wish every athlete understood — and trained — from day one.

Visualisation — how top athletes use it to rewire the brain and prepare for performance.

Self-talk — because your brain is always listening.

And identity — because you can’t consistently perform beyond the person you believe you are.

Stay tuned. I’m releasing a masterclass on exactly this soon.. šŸ‘€

If you’re new around here… hi. šŸ‘‹

I’ve spent 10+ years in health & fitness, own a gym, train for triathlons—which is probably evidence that I enjoy making life unnecessarily difficult —and I’m raising three children.

But I’m also slightly obsessed with the brain.

I’m fascinated by human potential—and why we can be capable, motivated and ambitious, yet still get in our own way.

Because high performance isn’t about becoming perfectly disciplined.

It’s about understanding yourself, building the capacity to handle hard things and learning what you’re actually capable of.

That’s what I’ll be sharing here.

Mindset. Science. Real life. And the stuff that makes you think… ā€œMaybe I’m capable of more than I thought.ā€

Now enough about me—tell me one thing I should know about you šŸ‘‡

You don’t need more confidence.

You might just need to back yourself before you have the proof.

That’s where it starts.

What are you backing yourself on?
