"There's no advantage to hurrying through life." — Shikamaru Nara.

Sometimes moving quickly — at a fast, aggressive, unsustainable pace — is an unconscious way of not being with the body.

Keeping so busy that we distract ourselves from what feels challenging.

And the invitation to slow down becomes hard to hear.

So we find a moving pause. Speed up. Speed down. Continue in action.

Maybe a moment of being mirrored — seeing your own ways of moving through the world — might help you see differently.

You might notice how repetition aids regulation. Where there are opportunities to carve out spaces to rest. Where distraction has been serving you — and where it hasn't.

In this reel, I try these things out experientially — finding ways to be more fully with the body without taking anything away.

How do I hold
Emotions, Sensations, Memories
Words that needed to be said out loud
silences locked away
unspoken communication

Today

Dissociation isn't weakness.

It isn't split personalities.

It isn't something broken in you.

It's your mind doing something

extraordinarily intelligent —

Fragmenting awareness.

Building protective barriers.

Keeping you safe from the truth

That was too much to hold all at once.

Dr Dan Siegel once told Sally Maslansky.

after her 1991 diagnosis —

"It's a brilliant adaptation."

Your mind didn't betray you.

It protected you.

The most sophisticated way it knew how.

And yet —

That protected memory doesn't disappear.

It waits.

I wait too.

Not for the right technique.

Not for the right words.

I wait until I can sense that memory.

has entered the relational space between us.

A moment once held alone —

in isolation, in confusion, in silence.

Sometimes what it needs is quiet.

A soft acknowledgement.

"I see you. I'm here."

And sometimes it needs something bigger —

a grand reentry.

A way of meeting the past with new eyes.

Following what arises.

Allowing what was never witnessed

to finally be seen.

This is Relational Somatic work.

This is where integration lives.

"Trusting is hard. Knowing who to trust, even harder." — Maria V. Snyder.

We talk a lot about safety in therapy. But what about distrust?

Distrust is a survival instinct. The defences that kept us alive in relationships that were meant to be trusting.

When we can name these moments together, real relational ground can form.

In my work, I keep stepping back until small allows enoughness.

What fosters trust for you? 💭

Relational one at Eve

An openness to being changed by the client is required of the person-centred therapist. A person-centred therapist who is closed off from being changed implicitly denies the full humanity of the client. ― David Murphy

Each encounter with a client allows something within me to be looked at and shift.

One of my greatest wounds is the fear of rejection. There is something so scary about saying this out loud, but it needs to be said right now; it feels right. The seesaw between over-compensating for the void through over-giving and the courage to sit in the fear that it is true is ongoing and needs attention.
In these moments, I have to learn to accept the pain. In this exploration, I notice how I respond: I overgive, then feel confused by the lack of acceptance. When I sit back and create space for the absence—when I hold myself in love in these moments—something rich can emerge. For me, for them, for us.
These moments are held in great secrecy in our work. So much shame of inadequacy.
I take ownership of my deep feelings and acknowledge that I need ongoing support from my community of care.
