“I don’t want to go to a chiropractor because I don’t want to be cracked!” is a common misunderstanding about chiropractic care.
Chiropractors use many different techniques. When patients first attend my practice, I explain to them that there is a whole spectrum of modalities a chiropractor may use to adjust your spine, ranging from very low force and gentle, to more firm manual techniques, and everything in between. Every patient is unique, which is why we have so many tools in our toolkit to suit each individual.
One of the gentler techniques we use is an activator, which is a hand held instrument that delivers a small impulse thrust into vertebral segments to restore normal range of motion and function (swipe across). Another we use are blocks, which are positioned in a very specific way to help gently balance the pelvis. There are also dural and tonal techniques, soft tissue techniques, cranial techniques and sacro-occipital techniques (SOT).
Chiropractic care is not a one size fits all approach.
