A little moment of gratitude 🤍

Sometimes in the busyness of clinic life, it’s easy to move from one appointment to the next without stopping to really appreciate what it means to be trusted with someone’s story, their pain and their body.

I’ve been reflecting lately on just how grateful I am for the incredible people who walk through the doors at Adhesion Pain Solutions Melbourne.

The conversations, the vulnerability, the little wins, the setbacks, the laughs and the relationships that develop along the way.

One of the things that always makes me smile is when our patients become part of the bigger picture of the clinic. That, to me, says so much about the community we’re building here.

Thank you for trusting us with your care.
Thank you for sharing your stories.
And thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your journey.

I don’t take that trust for granted. 🤍

C6 vs C7 — does your pain pattern look like this? 👀

Neck pain doesn’t always stay in the neck.

When a cervical nerve is irritated, symptoms can travel away from the spine and follow a fairly predictable pattern into the shoulder, arm and hand.

Two patterns we commonly see are:

🔹 C6
Pain or symptoms around the neck and shoulder, travelling down the outer arm toward the thumb side of the hand.

🔹 C7
Symptoms can travel from the neck and shoulder blade region, down the back/outer arm and toward the middle finger.

But here’s the important part 👇

Where you feel the pain isn’t always where the problem is.

Muscles, joints, nerves and surrounding tissues can all contribute to similar symptoms, which is why simply treating the painful spot may not tell the whole story.

If you’re experiencing persistent neck pain, shoulder blade pain, arm pain, tingling or numbness, an assessment can help determine what structures may be contributing to your symptoms.

That “knot” between your neck and shoulder blade might not be the muscle itself.

One possible contributor that is often overlooked is irritation or reduced mobility of the spinal accessory nerve.

When a nerve isn’t moving freely relative to the surrounding tissues, the muscles around it may increase their resting tension as a protective response. Over time, this can feel like the same “knot” that keeps returning, even after repeated treatment.

Many people have already tried massage, stretching, dry needling, foam rolling, or strengthening exercises. These approaches can absolutely be helpful, but if the underlying contributor hasn’t been identified, symptoms may continue to return.

At Adhesion Pain Solutions Melbourne, our assessments look beyond where it hurts. We consider how nerves, muscles, fascia, joints, and other soft tissues are interacting, and whether they’re working together efficiently or compensating for one another.

Persistent pain between the neck and shoulder blade can have many different contributors, which is why a thorough assessment is so important. Rather than assuming every “knot” is simply a tight muscle, we aim to identify the tissues involved and tailor treatment to your individual presentation, goals, and tissue tolerance.

If you’ve been chasing the same painful spot for months, or even years, it may be worth asking a different question.

Instead of asking, “How do I get rid of this knot?” ask, “Why does it keep coming back?”

Tennis elbow isn’t just about playing tennis.

For many people, it’s the everyday tasks that become frustrating—opening jars, carrying shopping bags, holding a coffee cup, shaking someone’s hand, lifting your child, turning a doorknob, or even typing on a keyboard for long periods.

You may notice your grip strength isn’t what it used to be. A water bottle feels heavier than it should, carrying the groceries becomes uncomfortable, or you start avoiding the gym because deadlifts, pull-ups, rows, or even gripping a dumbbell aggravate your elbow.

The pain is often felt on the outside of the elbow and may radiate down into the forearm. Some people experience stiffness first thing in the morning, tenderness when pressing on the outside of the elbow, pain when gripping or lifting objects, or discomfort that lingers long after the activity has finished.

While the tendon is commonly involved, tennis elbow isn’t always as straightforward.

đźš— Does getting out of the car cause pain or tightness through your groin or inner thigh?

🪜 Does walking upstairs make your inner thigh ache or pull with every step?

🛏️ Does rolling over in bed trigger pain through your groin or make those first few steps in the morning uncomfortable?

If these everyday movements sound familiar, your adductor muscles may be contributing to your symptoms.

The adductors do much more than bring your legs together. They also help stabilise your pelvis and hip during everyday activities like walking, climbing stairs and changing direction. When restrictive adhesions develop within these muscles, they can reduce how freely the tissues glide, alter movement patterns, and contribute to ongoing pain or stiffness.

At APS Melbourne, we assess how your body moves, not just where it hurts, and use targeted manual therapy to address restrictive adhesions with the aim of improving tissue mobility, restoring movement, and helping you return to the activities that matter most.

The goal isn’t just to reduce pain. It’s to improve movement, restore function, and help you get back to doing the things you love.

Groin pain doesn’t always tell the full story.

Many people are told their symptoms are caused by a disc, tight hamstrings, or weak glutes.

So they stretch.
They strengthen.
They foam roll.

Yet the pain keeps returning.

One reason may be that the tibial nerve isn’t moving freely through the tissues behind the knee.

The tibial nerve is a continuation of the sciatic nerve that travels through the back of the knee before extending into the calf and foot. When surrounding tissues become restricted by adhesions or scar tissue, normal nerve movement can become impaired, contributing to symptoms such as:

🔥 Pain that travels down the back of the leg
🔥 Tightness behind the knee
🔥 Persistent calf tightness
🔥 Tingling, burning or altered sensation into the foot
🔥 Symptoms that improve temporarily but continue to return

This doesn’t mean the low back isn’t involved.

It means the nervous system should be assessed along its entire pathway, rather than assuming the source of pain is where it’s felt.

At APS Melbourne, our assessment looks at how nerves move through surrounding tissues, identifies potential areas of restriction, and determines whether adhesions may be contributing to your symptoms.

Because lasting results begin with identifying the true driver of your pain, not simply treating where it hurts.

Book a complimentary Zoom consultation to find out whether an Adhesion Assessment may be appropriate for you.

Does walking make your low back ache? đź‘€

Most people assume it’s a “tight muscles.”

But there’s another structure that’s often overlooked…

The femoral nerve.

The femoral nerve begins in your lower back (L2-L4) and travels through the front of your hip before continuing into your thigh. Every time you walk, climb stairs, or take a long stride, that nerve needs to slide and glide through the surrounding tissues.

When those tissues become restricted, the nerve may not move as freely as it should.

That reduced mobility may contribute to:
• Low back pain
• Hip or groin discomfort
• Persistent “tight” hip flexors
• Pain with walking or climbing stairs

Pain doesn’t always mean there’s damage where you feel it.

Sometimes it’s a sign that another structure isn’t moving as well as it should.

That’s why, at APS, we don’t just look at where it hurts, we assess how your tissues move to identify what may be contributing to your symptoms.

Because finding what’s driving your pain is just as important as treating it.
