AccessCare AccessCare supports people to live independently in their own home and stay active in their community

AccessCare is an experienced provider of home care and support services managed by Kingston City Council in Melbourne. For 30 years, we have supported older people, people with disabilities and people who are homeless. We are dedicated to empowering our clients to continue living independently in their own homes and communities. We have earned a strong reputation for supporting people, including those with complex needs. Through our connection to local council, we have developed an unparalleled amount of industry knowledge and experience, which we use to ensure our clients receive care that addresses their unique and specific needs. In this way, we support our clients to remain in their own homes, surrounded by their pets, garden and community. Our friendly team of Aged Care Advisors is here to provide support, guidance and advice whenever it's needed, so if you have any questions about home care, AccessCare or My Aged Care, please get in touch on 1300 819 200.

This week is National Carers Week and we want to say thank you.

To the family members who show up every single day.

To the friends and neighbours who quietly check in, lend a hand, and make sure no one feels alone.

To everyone who gives their time, patience, and love to care for someone else.

Caring isn't always seen or rewarded and can be incredibly challenging. However, its impact is immeasurable.

To all the carers, thank you for making our community stronger, kinder, and more connected.

This week, and every week, we see you. We appreciate you. We thank you.

Daylight Savings Reminder!

A friendly reminder that Sunday the 4th of October is daylight savings.

A few friendly tips:
β€’ Set your clocks forward 1 hour before going to bed on Saturday
β€’ Most smartphones and computers will update automatically
β€’ Check and update any standalone clocks, including ovens, microwaves, car, and wall clocks
β€’ If you have a medical alarm or medication reminder device, it's worth double-checking that too
β€’ It's also the perfect time to replace your smoke alarm battery β€” a great twice-yearly habit to keep you and your loved ones safe

If you need assistance with changing your smoke alarm batteries, contact AccessCare on 1300 819 200.

Happy International Day of Older Persons.

Today is the International Day of Older Persons. It’s a day to recognise and celebrate the contribution older people make to our families, communities and society.

A lifetime carries so much: work, family, challenges, joy, experiences, knowledge passed down and lessons learned along the way.

That experience matters. It deserves to be seen, heard and valued β€” not just today, but every day.

To everyone we have the privilege of supporting, and to older people everywhere: you are valued, you are appreciated, and your stories and experiences matter.

The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) has been extended.

The CHSP was due to end in 2027, causing a lot of uncertainty.

In late August it was announced that funding for the program has been extended until 30 June 2029.

If you are currently on the CHSP and are eligible for services such as cleaning, transport, meals or social support, they will continue as normal. There is no further action required from you.

We understand the aged care system can be complex so we have written a simple article to explain the CHSP extension further and what to do if your care needs have grown.

Dementia Action Week: Let's Talk About It

This week is Dementia Action Week, and it's a good time to pause and remember that dementia can affect anyone and understanding it helps us all.

Dementia is caused by changes in the brain that affect memory, thinking, and daily life. It can happen to any of us, or to someone we love.

A few simple things we can all do this week:
β€’ Learn the early signs: including memory changes, confusion, or trouble with familiar tasks.
β€’ Check in on a friend or neighbour who may be living with dementia, or caring for someone who is.
β€’ Be patient and kind, a little understanding goes a long way.
β€’ Talk about it openly, the more we talk, the less stigma there is.

If you're concerned about your own memory, or a loved one's, speak to your doctor. Early conversations can make a real difference.
