Repost: Integrated Play Connections 🙌💖
“Adults often rely on conversation to process difficult experiences, but children may communicate differently. Their feelings can emerge through behavior, play, creativity, repetition, or even silence.
Child-Centered Play Therapy offers children a developmentally appropriate space to explore their experiences without the pressure to find the “right” words. With safety, connection, and acceptance, children can begin processing what feels too confusing or overwhelming to explain.
Children do not have to explain everything before healing can begin.”

An Introduction to Play Therapy 💖

I’ve put together a little social story for children who like to know what’s going to happen ahead of time. Seeing pictures and reading a story can help children get a sense of the play therapy process before they start, reducing anxiety of the unknown.

A big thanks to my junior model (not a client) for helping me create these images! 🤗

Inspired by Marc Armitage at Play’s PD the other week (and De Garis Bush Kinder), I left this pile of bricks on our regular bush walking route, to add an element of surprise and discovery. The kids found it today and loved it! They would have spent a solid 40 minutes building, in which I saw science in action, creativity, imaginative play, social skill development, proprioceptive development, and more! Be Me Nature Play supports the whole child, not just physical development, or speech, or social-emotional learning…the whole child. It’s the BEST! 🤗💖

Could the first day of spring be any more glorious?!☀️
We had a lovely time playing in the bush this morning; digging in the sand, floating bark boats, feeling the cold water on our feet, making sand angels, and climbing new logs/rocket launchers/tractors/sailing ships! This is living! 💖🤗

Happy National Wattle Day!

Did you know, Indigenous Australians have used over 30 species of wattle (Acacia) for more than 50,000 years for food, medicine, tools, and cultural practices!

💛 The blooms of the wattle tree have been used in ceremonies, symbolizing new beginnings, growth, and spirituality.
💛 Harvested wattleseed is roasted and ground on flat stones into flour to bake damper.
💛 Sap from the trunks can be eaten raw as a sweet treat, mixed with water for a beverage, or used to soothe the throat.
💛 The roots and trunks served as habitats for protein-rich insect larvae.
💛 Leaves, bark, and branchlets can be boiled or crushed into poultices and washes to treat colds, flus, coughs, and digestive issues.
💛 The leaves of certain wattles contain juices that form a soapy lather when rubbed with water, useful for washing and cleaning cuts.
💛 Dense wattle timber is shaped into heavy-duty implements, boomerangs, and spears.
💛 Sticky gum and tannins from the bark worked as natural glues, while processed inner bark fibres can be twisted into coarse ropes and string.
💛Flowering wattle acted as a seasonal calendar, signaling when specific fish or marine life were ready to harvest.

What an absolutely AMAZING plant! 🤩

Pictured are a few of the wattles found around the GrowAbility Nursery parklands, and a cute little vase I made at Be Me Connect and Play yesterday. 🤗
