What makes a house feel like a home? For Joanne, it's her own bedroom, a garden, a pool, her favourite things and, naturally, plenty of unicorns.

Moving into Supported Independent Living has given Joanne a home of her own, with support when she needs it and more independence to do the things she loves.

At Afford, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to be seen, celebrated and recognised for who they are.

To mark International Day of People with Disability 2025, we hosted our See Me, See Us exhibition at PHIVE at City of Parramatta

The day showcased the talents, confidence and achievements of five incredible Afford clients: Jemma, Grace, Jodie, Elsie and Todd. Their powerful portraits captured not only beautiful images, but stories of growth, courage and possibility.

More than an exhibition, the event was a celebration of inclusion, dignity and the importance of creating spaces where people with disability can thrive. If you're not across it already, these portraits were the end result of a short modelling course created by our good friends at Model MATES.

A heartfelt thank you to PHIVE and everyone who helped create an unforgettable experience for our clients, their families and our community.

When people are given the opportunity to shine, the possibilities are endless. This deeply impactful collaboration would not have worked without you. You can read more about it here https://zurl.co/8G1A6

Afford is currently celebrating its 75 years together. 🪁💙
We have been bringing together clients, families, friends, our team and the wider community to celebrate everything that makes Afford what it is: people, connection and belonging.
A huge thank you to everyone who has joined us so far and to our incredible teams for making the events we have held so far so special.
After 75 years, we know that the best things happen when people come together - whether that’s supporting someone to live the life they choose, being part of a great team, or working alongside organisations and communities that share our belief in inclusion.
Thank you everyone for celebrating with us. And here’s to everything we can achieve together in the future. 💙

At Afford, we believe that creating safe, healthy and supportive workplaces is everyone's responsibility.
This October, we're proud to support National Safe Work Month 2026. The campaign highlights the importance of workplace safety in protecting people's health, wellbeing and future.
To mark the start of Safe Work Month, we hosted a morning tea, where employees came together to discuss what safety means in our workplaces and to share ideas for practical improvements. It was an opportunity to have meaningful conversations, learn from one another and reinforce our collective commitment to creating safe environments for employees, supported employees, clients and visitors.
At Afford, safety goes beyond policies and procedures. It includes looking after both physical and psychological wellbeing, speaking up when something doesn't seem right and supporting one another every day.
We encourage everyone to consider one simple question this month:
What's one change that could make your workplace safer, healthier or more supportive?

Our 75 Years Together celebration in Penrith on September 19 began with a smoking ceremony and Welcome to Country by Uncle Colin Locke, a proud Dharug Elder. It was a meaningful reminder that reconciliation is not simply something we acknowledge, but something we must continue to work towards.

For Afford, there are important points of connection between our commitment to reconciliation and our commitment to disability inclusion. Both call on us to listen to lived experience, challenge exclusion, uphold people’s right to self-determination and ensure every person has a genuine voice in the decisions that shape their life.

The experiences and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people with disability are distinct. But we recognise the shared importance of belonging, respect, choice and being included in community life.

As we continue our Reconciliation Action Plan journey, we are committed to listening, learning and building genuine relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. We know reconciliation requires sustained action - and we are determined to keep moving forward together.

Thank you for your incredible generosity and time Uncle Colin.

75 years of people, connection, community and possibility. 🎉
As we celebrate 75 years of Afford, we’re taking a moment to look at what really matters - the people and communities who have been part of our story.
And there’s plenty more to celebrate.
Here’s to 75 years together!

One of the greatest joys at our community events is seeing children join the celebration. 💜
They arrive ready to dance, play, laugh and make new friends - often connecting with people with disability naturally and openly, without assumptions or hesitation.
Those moments matter. They show us that inclusion doesn’t need to be complicated. It can begin simply: by spending time together, sharing experiences and giving people the opportunity to know one another.
Children bring so much energy and joy to our events, and they are always welcome. Not only are they the future of our communities - they remind us what belonging can look like when we meet one another with curiosity, warmth and an open heart.

Connection matters.
A familiar face. A shared laugh. A conversation. A day spent doing something you enjoy.
These moments might seem small, but they can mean a lot.
That’s what community is all about. ❤️

Penrith and Thornton have long held a special place in Afford’s story - and that connection was on full display at our 75 Years Together celebration.

Many of our clients and staff live locally. They are part of the fabric of this community: known, valued and very much loved. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces come together with families, friends, neighbours and local organisations to celebrate alongside us.

We are incredibly grateful for the warmth and support the Penrith and Thornton communities continue to show our people and our organisation.

Afford will always welcome opportunities to work alongside local communities - especially to create greater connection, participation and opportunity for people with disability. That is where our hearts lie, and it is what has guided us for 75 years.

Thank you, Penrith and Thornton, for making the day so special. 💜
