Here is something most people only learn the hard way. When you choose home care, the biggest difference is not the list of services. It is whether you see the same faces each week.

Rotating support workers means starting over again and again, explaining your routine to a stranger every visit. A consistent team learns how you like things done, spots changes early, and builds real trust.

When you compare providers, ask one question: will I have the same workers, or a roster of whoever is free? Save this for later. What matters most to you in a support worker?

Living in an SDA home, you still pay rent, but did you know there is a limit on what a provider can charge you? It is called the maximum reasonable rent contribution, and it is set by the NDIS, not the provider. Your rent should be an agreed amount, written into your service agreement, never a surprise.

One of the most common NDIS mix-ups: people think SDA funding pays for their support workers. It does not. SDA pays for the specialist home itself, the ceiling hoists, the wide doorways, the reinforced walls.

The people who support you day to day are funded separately (that is SIL or other in-home funding). Knowing which pot pays for what can change how you plan, and stop you being caught short. Save this so you remember it at your next plan meeting. What surprised you most about how SDA works?
