Celebrating community engagement and health education in regional Australia!
Thank you to Paul Wickham (pictured) and his pharmacy team, especially pharmacy student Erin Balfour (pictured), John Carey (000 First Aid) and Dr Jimmy Tseng for an informative evening at last week’s Shepparton Asthma and Hay Fever community seminar, bringing people together to learn more about their respiratory health at this important time of year (high pollen and thunderstorm asthma season)
We also had health care professionals join us, with collaboration a key focus of our conversations.
At APLUS Pharmacy Education ( in partnership with the Zoe Kennedy Foundation), our purpose extends beyond breathing new life into respiratory care. It’s about working alongside pharmacy teams across Australia to deliver community education and engagement to an APLUS standard.

This one meant the most!
Just as our Geelong dinner meeting held special meaning for Lachlan, Zoe Kennedy’s father in his home town, our 4th educational health care professional dinner meeting was deeply personal. Echuca Moama is home to me, and to Zoe’s aunty and uncle, Georgie and Dr Sam Kennedy, pictured here. Together, we explored the updated Australian asthma guidelines in the National Asthma Council Australia's Australian Asthma Handbook and what they mean for the care we provide in our community. Sam bravely shared Zoe’s story and the devastating loss of his 13 year old niece to asthma.
I can’t fully express my gratitude to the healthcare professionals from so many disciplines who came together for this important evening. Thank you for showing up, listening, learning, sharing your knowledge and standing with Zoe’s family and APLUS Pharmacy Education. We had 50 in the room!
The Zoe Kennedy Foundation describes Zoe’s legacy as turning heartbreak into meaningful action: inspiring people to act, strengthening communities, and working towards a future where greater awareness, prevention and care save lives. APLUS Pharmacy Education was born to breathe more life into respiratory care. Seeing our community come together with the Zoe Kennedy Foundation and APLUS Pharmacy Education to strengthen asthma care brought that purpose home.

Happy I have always loved being a pharmacist. Every day brings a chance to be part of a healthcare team and support someone on their journey towards better health outcomes. There’s never a boring day.

Yesterday was especially meaningful: I spent my first day at Rumbalara Aboriginal Medical Clinic in a new role as a visiting respiratory care pharmacist. I’ll be there once a month, working alongside the nurses, doctors and wider practice team to support patients with their respiratory health.

As I’ve found through my work at Moama Health Clinic General Practice, being embedded in a clinic and working together across professions is incredibly rewarding. I’m grateful for the warm welcome at Rumbalara and excited to build on this work.

If you are 12 years and over and only have a blue puffer for asthma, please also make an appointment to see your doctor about Anti-Inflammatory Reliever Therapy to better manage your asthma.
