Participation doesn’t always mean doing more.

Sometimes it means relaxing together – watching a movie, reading a book, or simply spending time with family.

For children with additional needs, standard lounge seating doesn’t always provide the support needed to stay comfortable for long. Chillout chairs can offer a supportive place to rest while still maintaining postural support.

These seating options may help:
🔹Support the body in a relaxed, comfortable position
🔹Provide gentle containment for children who benefit from sensory input
🔹Maintain postural stability while resting
🔹Make it easier to stay part of family time

From deep-sided chairs like the Gravity Chair or Dreamline Snooza, to supportive beanbag-style seats such as the P Pod, these devices combine comfort with postural support.

Because sometimes the best moments are the quiet ones shared together.

Bathrooms can be one of the highest-risk areas in the home – especially when lifting, bathing or supporting a child with additional needs.

Slippery surfaces, awkward transfers and confined spaces can place strain on both the child and the person assisting them.

Assistive technology can help make daily routines safer and more manageable for everyone involved.

Equipment may help by:
🔹Improving stability and positioning during bathing or showering
🔹Supporting safer transfers in and out of the bath, shower or toilet
🔹Reducing manual lifting and strain on carers’ backs
🔹Promoting comfort and dignity during personal care routines

From bath chairs and shower commodes to supportive toileting equipment, the right setup can help reduce risk while supporting independence where possible.

The most appropriate equipment depends on each child’s mobility, postural needs and the layout of the bathroom environment.

A therapist and Assistive Technology Professional can help assess what will work best at home.

Not all paediatric strollers are built for the same kind of day out.

Some children need high levels of postural support. Others need a stroller that can handle bush paths, busy footpaths or longer community outings.

That’s why paediatric strollers come in different designs – each suited to different environments and support needs.

🛞 Postural support strollers
Designed for children who require structured seating and positioning support

🛞 All-terrain strollers
Built for parks, trails and outdoor adventures

🛞 Lightweight urban strollers
Easier to fold, transport and manoeuvre in busy environments

🛞 Behavioural support strollers
For when additional safety mechanisms are needed

The right choice depends on posture, environment and how the stroller will be used day to day.

An assessment with a therapist and Assistive Technology Professional can help identify the most appropriate option.

When a child moves independently – even in small ways – something powerful happens. They learn: “I did that!”

Early mobility is closely linked to cause-and-effect learning. When a child rolls to reach a toy, scoots toward a parent, or initiates movement across the room, they begin to understand that their actions influence the world around them.

This supports:
🧸 Cognitive development through problem-solving
🧸 Visual tracking and spatial awareness
🧸 Motivation and curiosity
🧸 Social interaction and connection
🧸 Early independence

For children with additional needs, introducing mobility supports as part of an early intervention program can help create these opportunities sooner, in a safe and developmentally appropriate way.

Early mobility builds the foundation for learning, participation and growth. Not just getting from one place to another.

Sometimes the biggest gains in walking aren’t measured in metres.

Walking development supports far more than mobility. It can influence how a child sees themselves.

Each small achievement – standing longer, taking a few independent steps, crossing a room with a walker – contributes to:
🔹Increased self-initiation
🔹Greater willingness to explore
🔹Improved problem-solving in new environments
🔹Stronger social engagement

From a clinical perspective, mobility progress supports autonomy and decision-making. Children who feel physically capable are often more inclined to engage, attempt and persist.

Even the little wins matter. A few extra steps across the classroom. Walking into therapy with their walker. Choosing to move toward a peer.

Confidence grows gradually – just like walking skills.

It’s not always about how many steps a child can take. Sometimes, it’s about how long they can keep going.

Walking endurance plays a big role in keeping up with daily life – at school, at home and in the community.

Here are 3 signs walking stamina may need support:
1️⃣ Fatigue partway through the day
A child may walk well in the morning but struggle by lunchtime.
2️⃣ Avoidance of movement-heavy activities
Playground time, excursions or community outings may feel overwhelming.
3️⃣ Reduced participation over time
Energy spent on walking may limit engagement in learning, social interaction or therapy tasks.

Endurance influences participation just as much as mobility skill.

When we consider walking goals, it’s important to look beyond distance and think about energy conservation, recovery time and sustainable movement across a full day.

Because keeping up with life matters.

When children build their walking skills, it opens up everyday moments that many families value.

It might look like:
✅ Walking into school alongside classmates
✅ Moving between classes without waiting for help
✅ Exploring the playground at lunchtime
✅ Walking through the local shops with family

These are the moments that support belonging, confidence and independence.

Walking builds access. And access builds participation.

With the right support, including walkers when appropriate, children with additional needs can build walking skills safely and confidently – so they can be part of what’s happening around them.

We’ll dive into the clinical reasoning behind supported weight bearing and gait intervention – with a clear focus on functional outcomes – to explore:
✅ The evidence behind assisted weight bearing
✅ Motor learning principles in supported gait
✅ Clinical decision-making for equipment selection
✅ Progression of supports over time
✅ Real-world case presentations and set-ups
✅ The emerging role of robotics in gait intervention

This is a practical, hands-on workshop designed to build confidence in scripting clinically appropriate solutions. Earn 4 CPD points.

📍 Rockhampton – 30 March
📍 Mackay – 31 Marh
📍 Townsville – 1 April
📍 Cairns – 2 April
