*EMMA EATS*
Balanced good for busy ppl!

I find brekkies and dinners are easy but I often struggle with lunches. So I’ve started making a slow cooker once a wk and I’m loving it!

I’ll throw in the slow cooker:
-one large chic breast (whole) OR four chic thighs (chopped)
-tonnes of veg
-half a packet of Mingle seasoning (this one was Sri Lankan curry)
-half a tin of diced tomatoes OR coconut cream

Leave it on low to cook for 8 hrs (or 4 hrs on high). I shred the chicken breast with two forks once cooked.

Thats it! It gives me two delicious lunches for the week. You could always double everything then freeze two portions for next time!

548. Top 5 Things I Loved This Wk:

1. Sleeping in until 7:40am on Saturday morning. I can’t tell you the last time I slept past 6:30am. It helped that my kiddo was at a sleepover and that my husband actually left the house quietly to go surfing. I woke up with Cookie Custard in my arms and sunshine streaming through my window! Had a shocking sleep last night and felt crappy today. Humbling.
2. The chill in the air as we made our way through the bush to a waterfall. Diving into the water was so freezing it made my bones ache!
3. All the sweet mamas who have brought their beautiful daughters into my clinic lately. I can see that they want to give their girls the tools that they might not have had growing up. Shifting patterns.
4. Popcorn coated in Tasmanian honey.
5. Late night walks on the jetty to see the full moon, vegan dark choc sorbet in hand.

547. Top 5 Things I Loved This Wk:

1. My ‘type B’ book club. We mostly just talk about dogs and carbs.
2. Embracing rainy walks. It’s been so wet the last few weeks that I’ve resigned to the fact that you just have to put on your shoes and go and look forward to the hot shower when you get home.
3. Meeting an elderly lady who had a tote bag over her shoulder that said “Heavily Meditated”. I was speaking to her about the importance of vitamin D and she assured me that she scares the neighbours when the sun comes out as she strips off to her underwear and lies outside like a lizard. Then she said that she’d been taking care of her heart because her husband passed last year and “He was such a treasure.” Do you ever meet older people and hope that you will be like them in 40 years?
4. Learning new tech stuff: still perfecting navigating my website, plus a my new phone and my MacBook. I swear my brain has been creating so many more neural pathways.
5. Having a husband that cleans out the S-trap drain thing under the bathroom sink. I do not know how, nor do I want to after I saw what came out of it!

How good are cafe admin sessions! I’ve been hunched over my laptop like a croissant 🥐 for the last three hrs smashing out emails and drinking chai.

If you emailed me today, I don’t usually get back to people this quickly 😆 Sorry to set an unrealistic image that I’m a highly efficient individual! Please don’t all email back at once 😳

The playlist here at Ground Earth has been banging. Nothing like listening to Dr Dre while interpreting client blood tests. 🩸

Enjoy your weekend peeps! So many new clients coming in next wk!

NEW NAME, WHO DIS?

As of last week, PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) has been globally renamed PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome).

WHY?

-It was never just about the ovaries! PMOS clarifies that it’s a multi-systemic condition involving the endocrine system, metabolic function plus hormones.

-The word “cystic” has been removed as they were never really cysts but multiple immature follicles, which didn’t even apply to some women!

This feels like a positive step forward and dare I say that ADHD will be next in line to be renamed!

*EADIE EATS*
Balanced food for little tummies!

FUEL UP ⛽️
Instead of saying things like “What do you want for brekkie?” or “Remember to eat before netball.” We are saying to our eleven year old “How are you going to fuel up today?”

I give my kid clients the analogy of food being like petrol in a car 🚙 We want good quality petrol so we can go further. No one wants an empty tank!

This term we’ve been making hot brekkies that look like bacon, eggs (today was curried egg), Almond Road paleo toast from Fresco with organic butter and a hash brown. Then she might have an apple or some strawberries. Sooo much better than the toast with honey phase that lasted forever.

Front loading the day with a savoury brekkie that’s packed with protein equals stable mood, energy and concentration. Was that crash out they had due to hormones or were they under-fuelled?

It took a while to build up to this, but it starts with doing your best to set an example as a parent. Sit down and eat a balanced brekkie rather than swigging a coffee or skipping food altogether. Our kiddos are building a relationship with food based on what they see at home. 🏠

I always tell my clients that the busier they are, the more organised they have to be. Otherwise you end up skipping brekkie and grabbing a muffin when you get to work or getting drive-thru on the way home from after school activities.

It can be something as simple as boiling six eggs at a time and leaving them in their shells in the fridge, baking a tray of roast veggies or making a double batch of bolognese to make spaghetti tonight and shepherds pie the next.

Last night’s meal prep:
🥣 veggie and noodle soup (I’ll shred a bbq chook tomorrow night).
🍳 bacon and veg frittata
🍏 stewed apple to make into a crumble for dessert then have the leftovers for brekkie with coconut yoghurt
