𧊠Is it Perimenopause or Your Thyroid? The Overlap You Need to Know About đ§Š
Perimenopause can feel like a whirlwindâhot flushes, night sweats, palpitations, joint pain, and disrupted sleep. But what if these symptoms are also pointing to another issue? The thyroid.
During perimenopause, thyroid changes can occur, and the symptoms often overlap. Sweating, palpitations, sleep disturbances, and nervousnessâthese can all be signs of a thyroid issue as much as perimenopause. Itâs vital to get full investigations to determine the true cause of your symptoms so they can be managed correctly.
đŹ In fact, a recent clinical paper highlighted that over 75% of women experience menopausal symptoms, but not all of these symptoms are directly related to menopause. Some, like sleep issues or joint pain, may also arise due to aging or even underlying thyroid conditions.
đĄ Thatâs why, when you come to me, my goal is to dig deeper, investigate thoroughly, and find the cause of the problemânot just treat the symptoms. One patient of mine, who had multiple out-of-range thyroid results overlooked over the years, finally received a proper diagnosis. It turns out she had a goitre requiring partial thyroidectomy, and she thanked me for encouraging her to push for answers.
⨠Perimenopause and thyroid health can be intertwined, so if youâre experiencing symptoms, letâs ensure weâre not missing anything. Donât settle for guessingâletâs find answers together.
