𝗣𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀?

More exercise isn’t always the answer.

If your progress has stalled, it may be worth looking at whether your program is actually matched to your goals, whether you’re progressing your training appropriately, and whether recovery is keeping up with the workload.

A good exercise program should have a purpose.

That might mean adjusting your:
✔ Training volume
✔ Exercise selection
✔ Intensity and progression
✔ Recovery
✔ Overall approach to your specific goals

If you’re exercising consistently but feel like you’ve hit a plateau, our Exercise Physiology team can assess what you’re currently doing and help identify what may need to change.

☀️ **𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗕𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗗?**

Living in Australia doesn’t automatically mean your vitamin D levels are where they should be.

Doveston Health Dietitian **Lily Pearson** explains that vitamin D deficiency can still be surprisingly common — particularly if you:

🏠 Spend a lot of time indoors
🧴 Regularly use SPF
☀️ Have limited sun exposure
🥗 Aren’t getting much vitamin D through your diet

Vitamin D plays an important role in supporting **bone health, muscle function and overall wellbeing**, so low levels may be worth investigating.

But before reaching for the biggest bottle of vitamin D supplements on the shelf, Lily recommends having your levels checked first.

A simple blood test through your GP can help determine whether your vitamin D is low and, if supplementation is needed, what approach may be appropriate for you.

💡 **The right amount matters — more isn’t always better.**

If you’d like help understanding how your diet may be contributing to your vitamin and mineral intake, our Dietetics team can help.

Seeing words like “disc bulge” on an MRI report can sound alarming — but an imaging finding doesn’t automatically explain why you’re experiencing pain.

In this video, Doveston Health Physiotherapist Gautam explains why MRI results need to be considered alongside your symptoms, movement, strength and overall clinical assessment.

Disc bulges and other changes can sometimes appear on imaging in people who have little or no pain at all.

That’s why treatment shouldn’t focus on an MRI report alone.

A Physiotherapist may also look at:

🔹 Where your pain is located
🔹 Whether symptoms travel into the leg or arm
🔹 Your strength and mobility
🔹 What movements aggravate or relieve symptoms
🔹 How your symptoms are affecting everyday activities
🔹 Any signs that may require further investigation or referral

💡 Your scan is one piece of information — not your entire diagnosis.

For many people, appropriate education, progressive exercise, movement and rehabilitation can form an important part of managing spinal pain.

If you’ve recently had an MRI and you’re unsure what the results actually mean for you, our Physiotherapy team can help assess the bigger picture.

👩‍🍳 **𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻**

Healthy eating isn’t just about knowing *what* to eat — sometimes the biggest challenge is knowing how to plan, shop for and prepare meals independently.

At Doveston Health, Dietitian **Lily Pearson** can work with NDIS participants through practical, hands-on nutrition sessions designed around their individual goals and abilities.

Depending on the participant, sessions may include:

🛒 Guided grocery shopping
🥕 Choosing suitable ingredients
📋 Meal planning and preparation
👩‍🍳 Hands-on cooking support
🍽️ Turning ingredients into practical, everyday meals
💡 Building confidence and skills that can be used at home

Rather than simply being given a meal plan, participants have the opportunity to practise the skills involved in actually putting that plan into action.

And one of the best parts? You can leave the session with **prepared meals to enjoy at home**, along with practical skills you can continue building on.

The goal is to make nutrition more achievable, practical and relevant to everyday life.

If you’re an NDIS participant, family member or support coordinator looking for practical Dietetics support, get in touch with Doveston Health.

😴 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵?

Sometimes fatigue isn’t just about needing more sleep.

In this video, Doveston Health Dietitian Lily Pearson explains how low levels of important micronutrients such as iron and vitamin B12 may contribute to that persistent “running on empty” feeling.

You might notice things like:

⚡ Low energy throughout the day
🏃 Getting unusually tired or breathless with exercise
🥶 Cold hands
🧠 Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
🏋️ A noticeable drop in training or sporting performance

This can be particularly relevant for teenagers and active people, where high training loads, busy schedules and increased nutritional requirements can make meeting those needs more challenging.

The answer isn’t necessarily more caffeine — and it isn’t about guessing and buying a cupboard full of supplements either.

Lily’s focus is on identifying what may actually be contributing to the problem and using strategic, bioavailable nutrition, including appropriate iron- and vitamin B12-rich foods, to help meet individual requirements.

If ongoing fatigue is affecting your day, training or concentration, it may be worth looking a little deeper.
