I had so much fun doing this presentation 🤗

Staff came along as well as parents. We had a fantastic discussion on strategies and how to manage overwhelming emotions for our little people!

Thank you Viveka Nido Early School Maylands very much for inviting me🙏🏻😃

This is my last example of 5x videos on Tired Cries. Hopefully helping you to read your baby’s behaviour and making life easier! 🤗

Points to remember:
👶 Watch your baby’s behaviour (body language)
👶 Listen to their cries and be curious “what are they trying to tell me?”
👶Is this an “oww-oww” type cry?
👶 Do your bedtime routine exactly the same for every sleep no matter what time of the day or night it is (bath-time only at night obviously!)
👶 Forget about Wake Windows
👶 Don’t watch the clock
👶Consistency is key
👶Trust your gut instincts

Thanks for being with me whilst I shared these vids with you. If you would like support with your baby’s sleep feel free to reach out. Link in my bio 🤗😴

This 3 month old baby is definitely telling me that tummy-time is over and she needs to go to bed! Even though she is lying prone (on her tummy), you can still hear the clear “oww-oww” type sound telling me it’s time for bed 🛌

Now, I haven’t looked at the clock, and thought of those wake windows and gone “but you’re not meant to be going to bed for another 30 mins yet… here - let’s play with something else!”

If I had done that, she would’ve become overtired and dysregulated and super difficult to get to sleep😴

We need to trust our babies that they will tell us when they are tired. They know! 😊

Forget about the clock! ⏰Forget about Wake Windows and instead … watch your baby! ….👶

This bubba is 8 months old, older than the babies in the previous videos. But, you can still hear the same distinctive “oww-oww” type sound.

I would be picking this baby up to comfort him. Giving him a big cuddle until he’s calm and relaxed before putting him back down in his cot and supporting him whilst he’s self settling.

Can you recognise this cry in your baby?

Day 2 of showing you tired cries 🥹💤

You can see how this 8 week old baby is trying to settle himself because he has periods of quiet and stillness before starting another wave of crying.

When your baby is having these moments of stillness and peace, you know they are coping just fine😊

We need to give our babies space to tell us what they’re feeling, and support them whilst they are settling themselves. Calm in our own thoughts 🙏🏻 🕉️

He was asleep within 10 minutes of this video being taken 😴💤

This week I will be showing you the tired cry.

Each day will be a different baby doing the same tired cry.

Hopefully you will start to hear the “oww-oww” type sound and recognise it in your own baby.

This tired cry will happen after your baby has been showing you their tired signs 🫩 - which we have been covering in the previous weeks.

When we miss the tired signs 🫩 your baby intensifies the message and starts crying to get your attention 😭 When we misinterpret the tired cry then our baby starts screaming at us and becomes dysregulated 😩

When you hear your baby do this tired cry, you need to get them into bed asap. Be flexible with your bedtime routine, if they are already crying there’s no time for a bath, or books - just feed and straight to bed 🛌

Remember your baby is communicating with you and trying to tell you how they’re feeling!
