☕❤️ Community, Connection & ABI Awareness in Wonthaggi ❤️☕

Our Wonthaggi group recently enjoyed a lovely lunch together at a local café, sharing good food, great conversation, and plenty of laughs. 💛

The group also celebrated the completion of their beautiful ABI Awareness Week canvas, which is now proudly on display at Wonthaggi Library. 🧠❤️

This special community project brought people together to raise awareness of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), with each heart contributing to a colourful and meaningful display.

If you're in the Wonthaggi area, be sure to stop by the library and take a look at the finished artwork. It's a wonderful example of creativity, community spirit, and raising awareness together. ✨

🎈🎯 Games Day Fun in Morwell! 🎯🎈

Our Morwell group had an action-packed Games Day last week, filled with plenty of fun, laughter, and friendly competition. 💛

From shooting moving targets with a giant beach ball to balloon tic-tac-toe and everyone's favourite, balloon volleyball, there was no shortage of excitement throughout the day. 🎈🏐

The Nerf gun challenges were also a huge hit, with helium-filled balloons and a beach ball adding an extra level of difficulty and plenty of laughs along the way! 🎯✨

It's safe to say everyone had a fantastic time staying active, challenging themselves, and enjoying each other's company.

🧠❤️ Creativity, Community, and ABI Awareness in Wonthaggi ❤️🧠

Last Friday, our Wonthaggi group put the finishing touches on their beautiful ABI Awareness Week canvas collage, and what an incredible result it is! ✨

Each participant contributed their own unique heart design, creating a colourful display that reflects the power of community, connection, and inclusion. Everyone did an amazing job, and the finished collage is something to be truly proud of. 💛

We'd also like to thank Luke for his donation of the footy tipping trophy, which added a special touch to the day. 🏆

A huge congratulations to our Wonthaggi group and the team at Wonthaggi Library for their efforts in raising awareness of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and encouraging community members to get involved. It was wonderful to see so many people contributing their own decorated hearts and learning more about ABI along the way.

We hope this initiative helps spark conversations, increase understanding, and build greater awareness of ABI throughout our community. 🧠💙

🐷🐔🌿 A Farm-tastic Day Out for the Wonthaggi Group! 🌿🐔🐷

Our Wonthaggi group recently enjoyed a wonderful day out at Myuna Farm in Doveton, spending time with a variety of friendly animals and exploring everything the farm had to offer. 💛

Participants had fun feeding and patting the animals, with a few special favourites stealing the spotlight along the way. Nicole was delighted to spot some Guinea Fowl, bringing back memories of when she had them as pets growing up. Meanwhile, Sandra had her eye on a very large turkey and was more than happy to take it home if she could! 🦃😊

One farm resident that captured everyone's hearts was Peggy the pig, who quickly became a group favourite. 🐷❤️

After a busy morning meeting the animals, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch at the farm café, making for the perfect ending to a fantastic day out.

Days like these are a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, enjoy new experiences, and make lasting memories together. 🌟

🌟💛 Celebrating Ability

As ABI Awareness Week comes to a close, we're celebrating the strengths, talents, resilience, and achievements of people living with acquired brain injury.

ABI may be part of someone's journey, but it does not define who they are.

Every day we see participants pursuing goals, learning new skills, supporting one another, building friendships, volunteering in their communities, and living meaningful lives.

This week is about more than awareness. It's about understanding, inclusion, and recognising the valuable contributions people living with ABI make every day.

Thank you for joining us in raising awareness this week. 💙

🤝💛 Connection Matters

Friendship, community, and belonging are important for everyone.

For many people living with ABI, opportunities to connect with others, participate in activities, and be part of their community can have a positive impact on wellbeing and confidence.

At Headway Gippsland, we see the power of connection every day through shared experiences, new friendships, laughter, and meaningful participation in community life.

A simple invitation, conversation, or shared activity can make a bigger difference than you might realise.

🧠❤️ Creating Hearts, Conversations, and Community for ABI Awareness Week ❤️🧠

This week, our wonderful Wonthaggi Social Support Group team has taken the initiative to help raise awareness of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) in a creative and meaningful way at the Wonthaggi Library. 💛

Visitors are invited to decorate a felt heart, which will become part of a special community collage celebrating connection, inclusion, and community. The hearts created so far are absolutely beautiful, and it's been fantastic to see people getting involved and adding their own unique touch. ❤️✨

The team has also displayed information about ABI, encouraging visitors to learn more and helping build a greater understanding of the many people in our community living with acquired brain injury.

A big shout-out to our Wonthaggi team for bringing this idea to life. We love seeing initiatives that spark conversations, encourage creativity, and bring people together. 👏

If you're in the Wonthaggi area this week, pop into the library, decorate your own felt heart, and learn more about ABI. We'd love to see the community get involved! 💛

💙🧠 Not Every Disability is Visible

Many of the challenges associated with ABI can't be seen.

A person may appear fine on the outside while experiencing fatigue, memory difficulties, concentration challenges, or sensory overload.

That's why awareness matters.

By being patient, understanding, and willing to listen, we can help create communities where people feel supported, respected, and included.
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer is a little extra understanding. 💛

🧩💛 Myth vs Fact

One of the most common misconceptions about acquired brain injury is that everyone's experience is the same.

The reality is that no two brain injuries are alike.

Some people may experience changes to memory or concentration, while others may face physical, communication, or sensory challenges. Many people also continue to work, volunteer, pursue hobbies, and play active roles in their communities.

Understanding that every person's experience is different is an important step towards creating a more inclusive community.
