I used to think my job was to get people fitter.

It’s not.

It’s to help someone walk up the stairs without dreading it, play with their kids without worrying about their back, or feel steady on their own two feet again.

That’s what exercise physiology actually looks like in practice. Less about numbers on a program, more about giving you your life back.

From physio aide at my local clinic… to practice manager and sports trainer on the sidelines… to juggling disability support work through uni… to graduating and working across the Illawarra… and finally building my own path as an Exercise Physiologist in the Southern Highlands.

Now I’m working mobile in gyms and the community, running my first hydrotherapy group, presenting to 150 GPs about women’s health, and even writing my own book.

It’s been a winding journey, but I genuinely love the work I get to do every day. 🤍

A couple of months ago I started the Southern Highlands Allied Health Professionals Facebook group on a bit of a whim.

As a sole-trader working full time in allied health, I realised how important it is to stay connected with other practitioners - not just professionally, but socially too. Allied health can feel quite isolating when you work independently, and I wanted to create a space where we could build genuine relationships, collaborate, and support each other.

Last night we had our first in-person catch-up at Moss Vale Hotel, and I was honestly blown away by the turnout. Seeing practitioners from so many different disciplines come together was exactly what I hoped this group could become.

A huge thank you to Angela for organising and hosting our first event - it meant a lot and set such a lovely tone for what this community can be.

This group isn’t about advertising your business or selling services. It’s about friendship, collaboration, referral pathways and supporting each other as professionals working in the same community so we can ultimately provide the best care for our clients.

We’ll be organising monthly catch-ups, with our next event planned for next month (I’ll post the event in the group next week). There’s absolutely no pressure to attend every time: come when it suits. Some events may be adults only, others may be family friendly, and we’ll mix up the locations and activities.

I’ve even already pre-planned a Christmas celebration in November (because December is always chaos!).

If you’re a health practitioner in the Southern Highlands, or an aspiring one, feel free to request to join the Facebook group or send me a message. We’d love to continue growing a strong network of local practitioners who support each other and our community.
