Supporting emotional regulation

Emotional regulation develops over time, and children often need to borrow calm from the adults around them before they can find it themselves.

When emotions are high, lengthy explanations or consequences are rarely helpful. Try:
• reducing language and demands
• using a calm, steady voice
• creating physical and emotional space
• offering a familiar sensory support
• reconnecting and reflecting after the child is calm

Co-regulation is not “giving in”. It is helping a child feel safe enough to regain control and build regulation skills over time.

💚 PARENT ADHD WORKSHOPS – EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST NOW OPEN!

Would you like to better understand your child's ADHD and learn practical strategies to support them at home?
Following our initial announcement, ACCESS Paediatric Clinic, in collaboration with All Brains Thrive, is inviting expressions of interest for our upcoming parent education workshop series.
Led by Dr Krishna Solanki, these five interactive sessions are designed to help parents and carers build knowledge, confidence and practical skills.

🌿 Our 5 Workshop Topics:
1. Understanding ADHD
Explore the different ways ADHD can present in children, including common challenges, strengths and individual differences.
2. ADHD Medication Explained
Gain a better understanding of ADHD medication options, how they work, what to expect and common considerations for parents.
3. Big Feelings & Emotional Regulation
Understand why some children experience intense emotions and discover practical strategies to support emotional regulation.
4. Anxiety in Children
Learn how anxiety can present in children, recognise common signs and explore ways to support their emotional wellbeing.
5. Understanding AuDHD
Explore the overlap between autism and ADHD, how these differences can interact and ways to better understand and support your child.

📍 Location: Mount Barker, SA
📅 When: November/December 2026 – dates to be confirmed
🕔 Time: 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm, weekly
💲 Cost: $90 per adult, per session

An exciting opportunity has become available to join our friendly team at ACCESS Paediatric Clinic in Mount Barker!
We are looking for a warm, organised and enthusiastic Medical Receptionist to join our busy paediatric clinic on a casual basis, providing maternity leave cover for approximately 12 months.
About the role:
As part of our reception and administration team, you'll play an important role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for children and their families.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming patients and families
Managing appointments and patient enquiries
Answering phone calls and responding to emails
Processing payments and Medicare claims
Supporting our clinicians and administration team
Assisting with general reception and administrative duties

About you:
We're looking for someone who is:
Friendly, compassionate and professional
Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
Confident communicating with children and families
Comfortable working in a busy environment
A positive team player with strong computer skills
Previous medical reception experience is highly regarded, although training will be provided to the successful applicant.

October is ADHD Awareness Month.

ADHD is not simply a lack of attention. It can affect attention regulation, impulse control, activity levels, working memory, emotional regulation, planning and the ability to begin or complete tasks.

A child may focus deeply on something that interests them, yet find an everyday task extremely difficult to start. This is not laziness or a lack of caring. The right understanding, structure and support can make a meaningful difference.

Every child’s experience of ADHD is individual, and their strengths deserve to be recognised alongside their challenges.

Did you know behaviour is communication?

Did you know? Behaviour is often a child’s way of communicating a need they cannot yet explain.

A child who refuses, withdraws, becomes upset or appears not to listen may be overwhelmed, anxious, confused, tired, hungry, in discomfort or struggling with the demands around them.

Before asking, “How do we stop this behaviour?”, it can help to pause and ask:
• What happened just before it?
• What might the child be communicating?
• Is the environment asking more than they can manage right now?

Understanding the need beneath the behaviour can guide a more supportive response.

📅 Additional casual hours available to cover leave and sickness, with potential for future growth.

📣 Clinic Relocation Update

ACCESS Paediatric Clinic is moving to Mount Barker!

To allow time for the relocation, the clinic will be closed from Friday 12th June 2026 until Tuesday 1st July 2026.

During this time:
• Dr Solanki will be unavailable
• Emails and phone messages will not be monitored
• Families requiring prescriptions, referrals or medical support should contact their GP

From 1st July 2026, we will be available again from our new location:
