Holistic Animal Physiotherapy

Holistic Animal Physiotherapy We are passionate about providing exceptional animal rehabilitation services to the veterinary industry and pet owners. Our experience stands for itself

Animal Physiotherapy is a new profession in Australia. It is exciting to be at the forefront and help in the development of this. I absolutely love my work. While I still treat the odd human, my animal work definitely puts a smile on my face.

I always think it is important clients make informed decisions about their pet’s care. As time goes on more info is coming out about librela or Beransa (in Australia) and adverse joint effects. This is a great hour long informative sessions from veterinary specialist about this medication to treat arthritis and what is being seen in clinic as a result internationally.

Kids off screens go camping and we learn this: Ostriches have only two toes on each foot—unlike most birds, which have three or four—because they evolved specifically for running rather than perching or scratching. This adaptation minimizes leg weight and allows them to hit speeds of up to 70kmph. Their unique two-toed design acts as a high-performance running mechanism:The Large Inner Toe: This massive toe functions as a spring-loaded shock absorber. It bears the brunt of the bird's weight and features a large, hoof-like claw that provides traction. The Smaller Outer Toe: This toe acts like an outrigger, helping the bird maintain balance while making sharp turns at high speed. SUPER COOL

What a privilege to have been asked to see 3yo willow today a very well loved rat. I absolutely love having to think laterally to assess and treat animals of all sorts. Willow has had progressive weakness and neurological issues in the back legs. I learnt that rats can also get degenerative myelopathy a condition often in German shepherds and is considered the case for willow as a diagnosis of exclusion . She was such a joy to treat and I think appeared to love the session also. Fingers crossed there can be some improvement and we can maximise her quality of life. Alongside manual therapy and neurological rehab she coped well with class 4 laser and acupuncture.

Well, this is new. And long overdue. And a bipartisan post; this post is about the US government recommending Americans eat more real food 🙌🏼. And why some doctors still diagree 🙀.

The USDA just flipped the food pyramid upside down. Literally. Lean meats, fresh vegetables, and fruits are now at the top. Grains and refined carbohydrates are at the very bottom. After decades of telling people to base their diets on high-glycemic, highly refined carbs, our government is officially prioritizing protein, roughage and antioxidants over starch. Real, minimally processed, nutrient dense food. And yes, this is an actual government meme.

It matters because the old guidance helped fuel an epidemic of obesity, diabetes, and cancer in humans. This mirrors what we see in dogs and cats fed ultra-processed diets every day, which raises an uncomfortable question:

When are veterinary organizations going to acknowledge this?

Veterinary medicine is now the last medical field still aggressively promoting ultra-processed diets as the foundation of health. The average bag of kibble contains roughly 30–60 percent refined carbohydrates. Dogs and cats do not require any starch, dyes, emulsifiers, flavorings, additives or preservatives, yet vets continue to defend these rendered, feed-grade industrialized food pellets as the holy grail of optimal nutrition 🤯.

Meanwhile, the human grade, fresh pet food segment is one of the fastest-growing categories in the pet food industry because modern pet parents are connecting dots; they are making healthier food choices for themselves and their families. They are recognizing that extreme heat processing of ultraprocessed fast food does not create health, it damages tissues, metabolism and immune resilience over time.

Human nutrition policy has finally started to admit what biology has always told us; eat fresher, lower glycemic, less refined foods. Reduce the amount of highly refined, high carb foods going into your body, and into your pet’s body.

Medical doctors, for the two and four legged, should be leading this conversation, not lagging behind it. At least human doctors aren’t recommending consuming only ultra processed foods (which still happens routinely in vet med).

The longer the animal medical community resists acknowledging the role of real, fresh, minimally processed food in the long-term health equation for all of us, the more out of step it becomes with emerging science, with pet parents and patient outcomes, and with common sense. At this point, it’s not just frustrating, it’s starting to feel embarrassing.😶

People just don’t think when they let off random fireworks how harmful it can be to animals. It can cause severe fear, anxiety, and panic because their acute hearing makes loud noises feel like explosions.
A few weeks ago random fireworks were lit on coolum beach and 3 dogs escaped. One was 10 month old woody who is an extremely bonded and obedient dog. He was missing all night and presumed hit by car and found with a broken femur. This required extensive salvage surgery. The Netherlands has approved a nationwide ban on consumer fireworks to protect animals, specifically dogs and other pets that suffer from noise-related stress. Come on Aussies and local coolum folk - think before you have your little fun especially when it is not predictable to our lovely pets. ❌

We have just completed another residential school for the final year post graduate diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy for Liverpool uni. There is always a lot of information to consolidate from our previous assessment workshop 18 months prior moving onto treatment. I always like to focus on safe, calm, effective handling to ensure the most accurate assessment and treatment, alongside the volume of information that is required at this level . Thanks as always to our dedicated volunteers (many in the dog training/animal behaviour space) to further enhance the learning of these physios and to SCARS for the opportunity to help some of their gorgeous dogs in need. Heaps of beautiful dogs out there!!! All the best in your journey into animal physio!
