A meaningful share of a lifetime's UV exposure is banked before adulthood, and most of the rest accumulates in ordinary ways nobody counts: the drive to work, the walk to the car park, twenty minutes hanging washing.

None of it felt like sunbathing. All of it went on the ledger.
