I just got a DEXA scan in my 40s… and here’s why 👇🏼
We hear a LOT about muscle, metabolism and hormones in our 40s — but we don’t talk nearly enough about bone health.
Our 40s are actually a really valuable time to understand where our bone density is sitting — particularly as we head towards perimenopause and menopause.
Why? Because oestrogen plays an important role in protecting bone, and as oestrogen becomes more erratic and eventually declines, bone loss can accelerate.
I didn’t want to wait until my 50s or 60s to find out where I stood.
I wanted a baseline now.
A DEXA can give you information about your bone mineral density and help identify whether there’s anything worth addressing before it becomes a bigger issue.
And the things we do NOW matter:
🏋🏼♀️ Resistance training
🦴 Impact/loading exercise where appropriate
🥛 Adequate calcium
☀️ Vitamin D
🥩 Enough protein
🍽️ Actually eating enough
🚭 Not smoking
🩺 Addressing hormonal or other medical risk factors
For me, this isn’t about being scared of ageing.
It’s about going into the next few decades strong, informed and proactive.
