IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion - what it shouldn’t be is a polite way of saying, “We’ve run out of questions.”

This client had already completed allergy testing, a colonoscopy and gastroscopy, and tried a low-FODMAP diet without meaningful improvement.

Further investigation gave us more context. We found reduced beneficial bacteria, broader microbial imbalance and markers that prompted us to consider gut-barrier and immune support.

That doesn’t mean every person with IBS needs a stool test. It means persistent symptoms deserve an individual assessment, not the same generic advice on repeat.

The useful question wasn’t, “Is it just IBS?”

It was, “What haven’t we understood yet?”

If you’ve been given an IBS diagnosis but no useful next step, comment GUT and we will send you our free ebook to help you get some answers!

“I’ve tried magnesium and it did nothing.”
We hear a version of this most weeks, and it’s almost always because it wasn’t the right supplement for them.

Because there are half a dozen questions sitting underneath that sentence.
Was it the right form?
Was it the right dose, or the amount that fit on the label?
Was it taken long enough to tell?
And underneath all of those - was magnesium ever the thing that was going to help you?

Most people arrive with eight to twelve bottles. A probiotic someone recommended. A greens powder from an ad. Two things bought during a bad week that were never opened again. We get it - every one made sense at the time, and the marketing around these products is excellent.

But it’s not a plan, and nothing in it was chosen because of something that was actually found.

That’s the difference. Supplements are tools. The right one for the wrong mechanism does nothing, and there’s no way to know which is which without looking first.

Testing usually doesn’t add to the cupboard. Most of the time it empties it.

There’s a difference between managing a symptom and fixing what’s causing it, and most of us have only ever been taught the first one.

Managing it looks like another supplement, another food group cut, another workaround.
Fixing it means asking why your gut’s reacting in the first place, and actually answering that.

If you’ve been managing the same bloating, fatigue, or gut chaos for years and nothing’s really changed, that’s usually the sign it’s time to ask why instead of what to cut next.

Save this one.

And if you’re ready to actually get to the bottom of it, book an initial consult, link in bio.

Kinda chic to work with a team who loves getting answers.
Not “here’s a meal plan, good luck” but actual testing, finding patterns, getting to the reasons your body is doing what it’s doing.
