Back Pain is one of the most common health conditions worldwide and remains the leading cause of disability globally. Most people will experience at least one significant episode during their lifetime. The good news is that the majority of back pain episodes improve substantially with physiotherapy and do not require surgery.

Veteran's access to healthcare is comprised.

What is happening in this space is alarming, veterans are having their autonomy stripped from them, such as DVA referring all veterans to Government Audiology Organisation (Hearing Australia) to diagnose and enforce treatment of tinnitus.

Royal commission recommendation #101 was to Give Department of Veterans’ Affairs clients more choice and autonomy - with DVA stating that changes implemented in June 2024 - veterans are able to choose their household service providers, general practitioner, specialist and allied health provider... This is in contrast to what is actually happening, and DVA is refusing to engage with stakeholders on these matters.

I am passionate about helping our veterans - your consideration to support the below petition to assist this mission is greatly appreciated.

Stop DVA from stripping veterans of the right to choose their own doctor

I'm Isabel, and I am a physiotherapist who has been helping veterans my whole career.
I have recently been approached to provide advice on DVA and how physiotherapy benefits veterans.
These meetings will hopefully influence policy and veteran access to physiotherapy, particularly those living in rural areas.

💬I want to hear from veterans! 💬
Tell me about:
Your experiences getting physiotherapy, either in clinic or in home.
Whether you have had to change physios due to funding
Concerns about accessing healthcare, particularly if you're living rurally.

Comment below, send me a DM, or email me.

What's New in Research? hEDS

hEDS (hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) is a long misunderstood (and likely highly underdiagnosed) condition.
For too long it has been simplified to "hypermobility", without clear education about its effect on the body.

However, EDS is far more than loose joints. A major study in 2024 followed 2,000 people with hEDS. This showed that many people experienced pain, fatigue, exercise tolerance and people 'not being able to get stronger', as well as symptoms like constant dizziness, digestive issues, and immune system changes. It also showed that the current diagnostic criteria are not really cutting it.

New criteria are being developed and should be released in 2026, which will mean a diagnosis is easier to get!
