🌟 A little celebration for one of our own! 🌟

We’re so excited to celebrate Peta Wilson, part of our speech team at Wellington Public School, whose beautiful children’s book ‘My First Dawn Service’ has been named a finalist in THREE categories at the SLVR Awards, which recognise excellence in independent publishing!

✨ Writing Excellence
✨ Home Grown
✨ Picture Perfect

‘My First Dawn Service’ is a deeply emotional story about a child’s first Dawn Service - one that won’t leave a dry eye. 🌅

And that’s not all! Peta’s book ‘A New Crown’ has also been named a finalist in the Most Heartwarming category. 💖

Four finalist nominations across two books is a pretty amazing achievement.

Congratulations Peta from all of us at Word of Mouth Health + Learning! ❤️📚

Winter can feel very different from other seasons, especially when choosing what to wear.

This visual aid is a simple way to help children learn what clothing is appropriate for colder weather and practise getting ready for winter.

Save this post or download the photo to support your kiddos with their winter clothing routine.

Stay warm! ❄️🧤🧣

Celebrating our Graduate 👩‍🎓 A few weeks ago our amazing Speech Pathologist, Pearl flew to New Zealand to present her honours thesis. While she was away sharing her research she missed her graduation ceremony. And couldn’t let this pass so we had our own WOM graduation celebration 👏 . Congratulations Pearl on graduating from The University of Sydney. We are so very lucky to have you as part of our WOM team and are super proud of you.

Had the amazing opportunity to present my honours thesis at the ASSBI/NZSIGN 2026 conference. Grateful for all the new connections, brilliant conversations, and the chance to share my work with researchers whose papers I’ve been reading for years!

There are so many sensory tools and fidgets available now, but not all of them help in the same way. Is it a fidget or a distraction?

A fidget should support focus, regulation, and participation. If it helps the child stay calm, engaged, and ready to learn, it is being used as a tool. If it takes a child’s attention away from the task, it may be more of a toy than a tool.

Not every child needs a fidget, and not every fidget works in every setting. The goal is not just to keep hands busy, but to help children stay calm, engaged, and ready to learn.
