When I started practicing Bowen Therapy 10 years ago it was an exciting, yet daunting experience.
As much as I loved what I did, I had no previous experience in body work, but I had a passion and and a genuine desire to help people, make a difference and to succeed.
I remember various clients trying my treatment who had been having regular Chiropractic / massage / physio etc. Some of these clients may have only come along once or twice to try Bowen at that point.
As well as the satisfaction I’d feel when able to help people overcome pain in these early days, I remember also feeling a sense of failure if unable to make an immediate impact on the pain for these new clients.
As the years progressed, many of these initial clients would return to give Bowen a proper go.
In a large percentage of these clients, on digging out their initial treatment notes I found that they still had pain in the same troublesome areas that they had presented with years before. Despite continuing their regular fortnightly / monthly / three monthly treatments with their regular practitioners since !
This was a valuable lesson for me to not be so hard on myself.
As a practitioner, I’m not “fixing” anyone. The body does that.
I’m just the facilitator.
There are many factors that will affect treatment outcomes. Length of time and severity of injuries, activities, job related duties, stress, lack of activity, overdoing it when the body needs time to repair etc.. (as well as other factors outside my scope of practice)
And of course, choosing the right treatment option / pracitioner that works for you.
These are some of the issues I will discuss with my clients to help get the best results out of their treatment.
If you’re in a rut with your body not functioning as well as you would like, or suffering persistent pain, then Bowen might be the change your body will thank you for. 😊
