September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗
Today is World Leukemia Day.
And this was our reality.
This is a photo that would usually only be seen by parents, loved ones and the medical staff caring for her. It captures a side of childhood cancer that most people never see.
The exhaustion. The sickness. The vulnerability. The moments where your child is simply completely spent.
This was what Evie's reality looked like.
And thankfully, today, it is a reality we can look back on.
Evie is in remission 💚
But there are so many children who are still living this reality every single day. So many parents sitting beside their sick child, watching them go through things no child should ever have to endure.
I think it is important to share the reality behind the brave smiles, the hospital photos and the "she's doing well" updates.
Because this is what childhood cancer can look like.
We are incredibly grateful that this is now part of Evie's story, rather than her present.
For Evie, for every child still fighting, and for every family beside them 🎗💛

Grace and her family were such a beautiful light for Evie and myself during our Warrior Princess' active fight 🎗️
Grace made the trip all the way to Sydney just to bring a smile to Evie's face, and she went above and beyond by getting a job and donating her wages to Evie. She is truly an incredible girl, and we are so incredibly grateful for her kindness, generosity and the love she showed our girl 🫶🏼💚
Now Grace is continuing to pay that kindness forward by supporting other children and families affected by childhood cancer 🎗

Grace's words:
Hi everyone! My name's Grace, and recently, I entered in a fund-raiser with the national cancer research foundation to raise money for kids and families going through what Evie's family did and research towards it. Any donations to the amazing cause are greatly appreciated - big or small. Every dollar counts ❤️

Today was an absolutely mammoth day!
7 hours at the hospital with appointments in Oncology, Dental and Endocrinology, along with several blood tests, X-rays and examinations.
The really wonderful news is that Evie is continuing to track along beautifully with Oncology and is still in remission! 🎗️
Dental were also happy to report that she is looking after her teeth really well. They will continue to monitor her for any lasting effects from treatment, although unfortunately it is still too early to tell 🦷
We will also now be working closely with Endocrinology whilst they do further testing to see whether her treatment has affected her growth and height. There has been some discussion around growth hormones and oestrogen, but we will know more once the testing is complete.
We always knew these could potentially be side effects of her treatment, so it is reassuring to have such fantastic specialists keeping a close eye on everything and making sure nothing gets missed.
For now, it is one appointment, one test and one step at a time.
And most importantly… our Warrior Princess is still in remission! 🥰

Another day, another doctor's appointment, another needle 💉
Today Evie had her live vaccinations now that she's 12 months post-chemo! She took it like an absolute champ... the promised meringue nests and chantilly cream afterwards may have helped a little 😂
Next week we're off to Sydney for Oncology, Endocrinology and Dental appointments, so we've got a couple of big days ahead. Fingers crossed they're filled with nothing but good news, as always 🤞🏼🎗

A huge thank you to the wonderful team at Wilpinjong Coal Mine, part of Peabody Energy, for their generous support of Country Hope families across Mid-Western NSW. 💙

Thanks to a recent grant of $3,000, we'll be able to continue providing practical and emotional support to local children and families when they need it most.

During the school holidays, Country Hope girls Indyanna and Evie, both from Mudgee, had the chance to visit the team to personally present them with a Certificate of Appreciation on our behalf. 💙

🎗💚First Cancerversary💚🎗
One year ago today, Evie had her central line removed.
To most people, it might seem like a simple procedure. To us, it marked the end of an incredibly difficult chapter and the beginning of a new one. It was the day Evie chose to celebrate as her Cancerversary 🙌🏼
It's impossible to put into words everything she endured to reach this milestone. The countless hospital admissions, procedures, medications, needles, tears, bravery, and the strength she somehow found every single day. Even now, life after cancer isn't free from fear. There are still regular scans, tests, appointments, and the quiet anxiety that comes with waiting and hoping her remission continues.
Yet through it all, Evie has faced every challenge with grace, grit, determination, a heart bigger than most adults... and, of course, a whole lot of sass.
Watching her fight has been the greatest privilege of my life. She has taught us more about courage than we could ever teach her.
Happy first Cancerversary, our beautiful Warrior Princess. I couldn't be prouder of the incredible little person you are becoming.
We love you more than words could ever say, Blossy Girl 💚
Here's to many, many more Cancerversaries ✨️

Sydney is always such a mixed bag of emotions. There is so much fear, anxiety and apprehension around what the results will show, but also the excitement of seeing our beautiful, very dear friends that we met in hospital, who have become nothing short of family to us 🤍
Today went well. Evie's results are showing that she is still cancer-free 🙌🏼 and continuing on the right trajectory, which we are incredibly grateful for!
We do need to do some further testing and to see an endocrinologist, as there are some concerns regarding her growth following all of the treatment she received last year. We need to rule out any underlying issues or, if needed, address and correct them as early as possible.
So, we will be back in Sydney in August, where we are hoping to see both the endocrinologist and her oncology specialist.
Her weight, whilst increasing, is still not quite where we would like it to be, so that will continue to be monitored closely. But since being diagnosed last year, and after all of the chemo, sickness and treatment she endured, she has gained over 8 kilos, which is absolutely incredible 😲

In true Evie fashion, she screamed the whole place down before getting her nose pierced and then immediately burst into laughter like nothing had happened 😂🤦🏽‍♀️
Not long ago, life looked very different. Now she is THIS far into remission... feeling stronger, growing up, and making bold choices! 😵‍💫
I used to be so adamant about no piercings before the teenage years, but after everything she has been through, I've learnt to relax the rules a little and let her live life on her terms (somewhat😅).
A huge thanks to Maree for being so patient with her 🫶🏼
Our Warrior Princess still going strong, with our next Sydney trip coming up next month 🎗
