We throw the word ā€œgroundingā€ around a LOT in the healing world.

Go outside.
Put your feet on the grass.
Take some deep breaths.
Imagine roots growing from your feet.

Those things can absolutely be useful, & they do help.

But grounding isn't synonymous with calm.

You can be grounded and pi**ed off.
Grounded and grieving.
Grounded and overwhelmed.
Grounded and having a really fu***ng s**t day.

Because grounding isn't about forcing yourself into some beautifully regulated state where nothing bothers you.

It's about being able to stay connected to yourself while you're experiencing whatever is actually happening.

That's a very different thing.

& that's where grounding starts to become really powerful.

Not ā€œHow do I get rid of this feeling?ā€
But:
ā€œCan I stay here with myself while I feel it?ā€

That's embodiment.
That's regulation.
That's coming back to yourself.

07/09/2026

If you can't ground yourself, healing is pointless.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for healing work, but in spiritual spaces, there tends to be a big focus on elevating yourself, connecting to the divine, accessing higher frequencies, expanding your consciousness…

& what we forget is that without the ability to ground, integrate and actually connect with ourselves, we can't hold any of that stuff.

It's why I place so much importance on nervous system regulation, grounding & embodiment.

Because who the f**k wants to spend a tonne of money on healing work, transformational coaching & trauma clearing if you can't actually hold onto the shifts in everyday life?

What's the point of accessing all this incredible wisdom if you can't bring it back down into your body, your relationships, your parenting, your work & your actual fu***ng life?

& grounding means so much more than just putting your feet on the ground & it definitely can't be replaced with a sheet on your bed.

Father's Day can be beautiful & lovely…
…& also involve a LOT of doing.
(& maybe not always go entirely to plan. I know mine didn't with extra house guests for the weekend & a powerful outage for an extended period)

Getting everyone ready.
Making plans.
Food.
Kids.
Family.
Gifts.
Driving.
Remembering things.
Plus it's a sunday so all the week ahead stuff.

Sometimes you get to the end of the day & realise you haven't actually checked in with yourself once.

So before you roll straight into another week, take a minute tonight.

Not to plan your week.
Not to catch up on everything you didn't get done today.
Not to mentally prepare for tomorrow.

Just stop.
Have a cuppa.
Sit outside.
Put your feet up.
Lie in bed for ten minutes before you reach for your phone.
Whatever actually feels like you.

Because after a day of looking after everyone. You need that time to connect with you & your needs.

So, how are you actually feeling tonight?

Not ā€œI'm fine.ā€

Actually feeling.

I reckon a lot of us (myself included) are really good at asking:
ā€œHave I done enough today?ā€

But not nearly as good at asking:
ā€œDo I actually have anything left?ā€

One keeps you focused on the list.
The other asks you to check in with you.

Your energy.
Your body.
Your capacity.
Your actual desire to keep going.

Because there will nearly always be something else you could do.

Another load of washing.
Another email.
Another job.
Another person who needs something.

The list doesn't magically disappear because you're tired.

Sometimes enough has to be enough because you are enough.

& maybe that's something worth practicing this weekend.

Not doing more.

Just noticing what you actually have available to give.

Woo! Finalist submission videos are DONE for the

3 x 5-minute videos.
2.5 hours to record them.

& yes, I got up at 6am so I could get them ticked off before taking Conall to swimming.

Now, the instructions were basically:
Say ā€œumā€ as many times as you like.
Don’t worry about looking super professional.
Just introduce yourself, answer the questions & finish with a quote.

Simple, right?
Apparently not for my brain. šŸ˜‚

Because I kept forgetting what the hell I was talking about.
Then I’d waffle on.
Then I’d remember something else I REALLY wanted to say.
Then my brain would completely shut down halfway through a sentence.
Then I'd get excited & go off on another tangent.

& somewhere in all of that I'd remember…
ā€œOh yeah, I'm supposed to be answering a question & I only have 5min"

So yes, 15 minutes of finalist videos took me 2.5 hours.

But they're done.

And honestly?

F**k perfection.

Because the mixed-up moments, the tangents, the excitement, the forgotten words & the occasional brain shutdown are all part of who I am.

You get what you get around here & I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why is resting so fu***ng uncomfortable sometimes?

When you've spent years being the one who gets s**t done.

You finally stop & your brain immediately starts looking for something else to tick off.

& you know why?

When you've spent a long time being rewarded for being productive, helpful, reliable, organised or needed, your brain can start connecting doing with being worthy.

So stopping doesn't necessarily feel like relief.

It can feel like guilt.
Restlessness.
Anxiety.
ā€œI should be doing something.ā€

So getting back up & doing something gives you a little hit of relief because you're back in familiar territory.

Back in "Doing land"

That's why ā€œjust let yourself restā€ isn't always as simple as it sounds.

Sometimes the work isn't learning how to rest.

It's untangling your worth from what you manage to get done.

& that's a much deeper process to work on.

Ever sat down at the end of the day and thought:
ā€œWhat the f**k have I actually done today?ā€ & yet you're completely cooked?

Because being busy doesn't always mean physically doing things.

Often it's the constant background processing.

Remembering everyone's appointments.
Thinking about dinner.
Anticipating what someone might need.
Planning tomorrow while you're still trying to finish today.
Keeping track of all the little things nobody else even knows you're keeping track of.

Your body might be sitting on the couch.
Your brain is running a bloody operations centre.

& that mental load is still load (& a heavy one at the that).

So if you're exhausted & can't quite explain why, have a look at what's taking up space in your head.

How many tabs are currently open up there?

We use the word tired for everything. I know I do, because it is often much easier than analysing or explaining all the things happening internally.

But not all tired needs the same kind of rest.

Sometimes you're physically exhausted & you genuinely need sleep.
Sometimes you've made 40 billion decisions before 10am & your brain needs less input.
Sometimes you've spent the entire day managing everyone else's emotions & you're emotionally done.
Sometimes you've been around people all day & what you desperately need is alone time.
& sometimes your nervous system has just had enough of the noise, notifications, screens, conversations, touching, doing, deciding & being "on."

So before automatically reaching for:
"I'll be fine, I'm just tired" & then pushing through...

Try asking:
What kind of tired am I?

Because understanding your capacity isn't just knowing how much you have left.

It's understanding what is actually draining it & once you know that, you can start giving yourself the kind of rest you actually need.

Maybe the answer isn't in resting better, but in resting differently.

Luckily i had the caption ready lol otherwise this might have been a mess too. I guess this is the positive of where we are located 🤣 anyway... now onto our normal broadcast....

Being capable can become a trap because once you've proven you can handle something, you start expecting yourself to handle it every bloody time.

You become the reliable one.
The fixer.
The organiser.
The one who somehow makes it happen.

& eventually you stop asking whether you actually have the capacity for something because you already know you can do it.

But those are two very different questions.

Can I?
versus
Do I have the capacity for this right now?

Your answer might be different depending on the day.

& that's not weakness.

That's being a human with finite physical, mental and emotional resources, & especially as mums & women who tend to stretch ourselves a bit thin.

You don't have to keep proving you're capable by running yourself into the ground.

Capability is what you're able to do. Capacity is what you actually have available.

Start noticing the difference.

Sometimes we don't actually need permission or approval. We just haven't given ourselves any.

We wait for someone to tell us it's okay to rest.
Okay to want something different.
Okay to disappoint someone.
Okay to change our minds.
Okay to take the opportunity.
Okay to leave.
Okay to choose ourselves.

& I think that's one of the quietest ways we lose our own authority.

We become so accustomed to looking outside ourselves that we forget that we are allowed to make the decision independently.

So here's your Sunday question:
Where are you waiting for someone else to give you permission & what would happen if you gave it to yourself?

You don't need to have the whole thing figured out.You don't even have to act on it today.

Just notice.

Sometimes awareness is the first step back towards yourself & you are allowed to be the person who gives you permission.
