Changes are coming within the NDIS space and how a participant's plan will look and how they will be funded. A lot of these proposed changes are still unclear at the moment. It is worth taking a look at what Sam from Growing space has to say about these proposed changes and what it may mean for you. If you have any concerns or questions speak with your support coordinator or LAC.

If you feel stressed, sad or frustrated, it may help to speak with a counsellor to discuss your situation. They can provide strategies to help you work through your emotions. Carer Gateway provides free counselling to carers. There are three types of counselling options available:

Prader-Willi syndrome is often misunderstood, and one of the most common misconceptions is that it’s caused by “bad parenting” or a lack of discipline.

That simply isn’t true.

PWS is a rare genetic condition that affects appetite regulation, growth and behaviour.

Families don’t cause it and parenting style doesn’t create it.

What families do instead is step into a world that requires constant awareness, structure and medical understanding just to keep their child safe and well.

Behind every diagnosis is a family doing their best in a system that often doesn’t fully understand what they’re facing.

Let’s replace judgment with understanding.

NDIS participant Lee just wants to get to class and chat with his friends along the way.

Instead of respecting Lee’s wishes, his support worker loudly interrupts the conversation, telling him what to do in front of everyone.

This interaction embarrasses Lee, making him feel powerless.

Moments like this can quickly weaken a person’s confidence and independence while they’re receiving support. To prevent interactions that limit participants’ choice and control, the NDIS Code of Conduct sets clear expectations on respecting individual rights.

▶ Watch our short video to see how small moments made in everyday support can make a big difference: bit.ly/NDISCodeIndividualRights

💬 After watching, consider Lee’s experience and take a moment to reflect: As a support worker or provider, how do the decisions you make every day affect the people you support?

The Government is consulting on new NDIS planning rules, including changes to:
• Support Needs Assessments
• How budgets are set
• How decisions are made and explained
Every Australian Counts is preparing a submission, and we want it grounded in real lived experience.
If you are an NDIS participant, family member, carer, support worker or advocate, your perspective matters. This short survey is your chance to share what these proposed changes could mean in practice.
You don’t need to read all the consultation material to take part. You can simply tell us:
• What makes planning fair and safe
• What needs to be transparent
• What helps protect choice, control and flexibility
⏰ The consultation closes 6 March 2026.
We’ll use survey responses (de-identified unless you say otherwise) to strengthen our submission and advocate for safeguards that work in real life.
👉 Take the survey: https://forms.office.com/r/EsbqZ3gcXM
A note of care: the survey discusses changes that may feel stressful. Support is available via Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636 or Lifeline on 13 11 14.

What changes have people with psychosocial disability experienced since joining the NDIS?
According to our survey:
✔️ More secure housing
✔️ Better care for themselves and others
✔️ Access to healthy food
✔️ Confidence with tailored supports
✔️ More community connection
This is why the NDIS matters. But we need to make sure these outcomes are protected and improved.
🧠 Have your say. Add your lived experience to our survey.

The heading reads: “If you are an NDIS participant with a psychosocial disability, please tick the statements that are true for you since you became a participant.” Below is a horizontal bar chart showing responses such as:
I take better care of myself
I have access to more secure housing
I have better access to nutritious food
I get out in my community more often
I feel more confident because my support is tailored to my needs
Each statement is colour-coded and matched to a legend on the left side.]
