A lot of people ask me what I do. It's not an easy question to answer if they have no experience of being an Independent Professional. It's an interesting journey. Being an audience of 1 allows for agility and an ability to re-set your sails to catch the prevailing winds...

After 12 years working for myself I was feeling last year to have a reprieve for a time. So, for the past year I have been fortunate to secure some fixed term contracts.

First was Walanga Muru as an Interim Director (Macquarie Uni) and second as a Senior Advisor with Lowitja Institute. May signalled the end of my time with Lowitja, and attending a couple of conferences saw me in Adelaide, Canberra and Parramatta.

My first (and only) Supply Connect Tradeshow.

Getting everything together for my first tradeshow in my own right. Marketed for other organisations - this will be the first time for myself. Quite excited after getting over initially feeling daunted. The last of my promotional material arrived yesterday. set everything up on the kitchen table yesterday to work it all out. Now to pack and plan the wardrobe. Catching up with some family at the end of the week too. Should be a great week.

Such a long time since I've posted on this page. If I look at the timing it was when I started my Graduate Certificate in Indigenous Business Leadership with Melbourne Business School.

Though I've had a few exec development programs with Universities before and the MURRA MBA Master Class Program this is the first fully fledged University Course I've done. I enrolled when I was 61; began when I was 62 and will finish it when I'm 63. I've always thought that study and work was a tough gig and it is. So to my cohort Bel Kendall-Barnes and others - all the best finishing this year.
As for work - a number of projects that were postponed during COViD have come to life again. The soil of life is fertile even if the manure is hard to take at times it enriches the soil and brings on growth...

Feeling that it is a time to re-vitalise and re-energise, let me share the launch of the Careers Pathways Project on this the International Indigenous Day

I attended my first meeting in August 2017 in Darwin for the Career Pathways Project. After many conversations with mob working in various fields of health; many, many meetings and collaborations here is the finished product.

This writing came up as memory today so I thought I'd share it again given that the theme of his year's NAIDOC is 'Always was, Always will be' recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years.

Wha? What did you say? I said “I was 53 years of age when I took part in my first public protest.” Some could call me a ‘late bloomer’ or perhaps even a slow learner. Remember the debacle with a se…
