The Neurological Council of WA is expanding its specialist Motor Neurone Disease (MND) services to provide advanced clinical care for people living with MND across Western Australia.

Led by an experienced Nurse Practitioner, and proudly supported by Fight MND, the clinic offers comprehensive assessments, symptom monitoring, medication reviews, clinical education and care coordination, helping bridge the gap between specialist appointments and ensuring people receive the right care at the right time. The service works closely with neurologists, GPs and other health professionals to support people living with MND and their families.

Referrals can be made by individuals, family members, carers or health professionals.

What if one conversation could help improve life for young people across the Mid West?

The Neurological Council wants to hear directly from local young people aged 12-18 who are neurodiverse or living with a neurological condition.

Through this workshop, participants will have the chance to share their experiences, discuss challenges and opportunities, and help shape a youth-informed roadmap for better support, services and inclusion across Greater Geraldton, Northampton and Dongara.

Community champions like Ray make a real difference.

Ray has become a passionate advocate for people living with neurological conditions across the Denmark and Walpole area, bringing the community together through the annual Denmark Walpole FC Parkinson's Big Splash fundraiser and helping raise awareness of the challenges many local families face.

Through hearing firsthand about the experiences of close friends and others in his local community living with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Motor Neurone Disease, Ray has committed himself to supporting those affected and ensuring the conversation continues in regional WA.

Thank you, Ray, and the Denmark Walpole Football Club for your generosity, enthusiasm and unwavering support of your local community. We're grateful for everything you do to help raise awareness and improve support for people living with neurological conditions.

Through conversations with community members like Ray, we're reminded how important local support is. Thank you also to our NeuroCare Community Neurological Nurse Tania, who continues to advocate for and provide trusted guidance and support to people and families affected by neurological conditions across the Great Southern, and had the pleasure of attending the Big Splash 💙

Last week, the Neurological Council partnered with Alike WA to deliver the How to Facilitate a Peer Support Group workshop at The Niche, bringing people together to strengthen the skills needed to lead safe, inclusive and effective peer support groups.

Facilitated by Janel Wong, the workshop explored what makes an effective facilitator, communication and conflict management strategies, setting healthy boundaries, encouraging participation and creating supportive environments where everyone feels heard and valued.

Participants also worked through practical scenarios and discussed ways to build connection, manage group dynamics and support the long-term sustainability of peer-led support groups.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation about strengthening peer support across our communities.

NeuroKids is heading to Broome!

Our NeuroKids team will be visiting Broome from 7-10 September and will be available to meet with local children, families, carers and community organisations that are impacted by neurological conditions.

This visit is an opportunity for those in and around Broome to:

✅ Discuss local needs and challenges
✅ Arrange home visits from our NeuroKids Paediatric Community Neurological Nurse

Regular regional visits are an important part of ensuring children and families living in regional WA can access specialist neurological support closer to home.
