NDIS Plan Check-Ins 💬

What is a plan check-in?

A plan check-in is a conversation with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) about how your current NDIS plan is working and whether your supports are still meeting your needs.

A check-in usually happens about 2 to 3 months before your plan is scheduled to end.

During a check-in, the NDIA may discuss:
✨ How your current supports are working
✨ Progress towards your goals
✨ Changes in your daily life or support needs
✨ Whether your current plan still reflects your situation
✨ Any upcoming life changes or future goals

A check-in does not always mean your plan will change — sometimes it simply confirms that your current supports are working well.

You’re also welcome to have a family member, support coordinator, advocate, or trusted person involved in the conversation.

Understanding the Difference: Legally Appointed Guardian vs. Parent for Adults with Disability

Did you know there’s a difference between a parent’s role and a legally appointed guardian for adults with disabilities? 🤔 Here’s what you need to know:

🔸Parent
~ A parent continues to support their adult child’s decisions after they turn 18, but their role is not legally binding unless they are appointed as a nominee for the NDIS.
~ Parents may help with day-to-day decisions and provide emotional support.
~ Parents can assist with Supported Decision Making, helping their adult child understand choices and make informed decisions.

🔸Legally Appointed Guardian
~ A guardian is appointed by a court or tribunal when an adult cannot make personal or health decisions independently.
~ Guardians can make important decisions about where someone lives, their healthcare, and other personal matters.
~ Guardians do not automatically have authority over an adult’s NDIS plan. To manage NDIS decisions, a Plan Nominee Form must be completed and submitted along with the official guardianship paperwork.

Both roles are essential in ensuring the rights, well-being, and best interests of adults with disabilities.

✨ Rest isn’t just sleep. ✨

According to Dr Saundra Dalton-Smith, there are 7 types of rest — and burnout often comes from missing the right one.

🛌 Physical rest – sleep & slowing down
🧠 Mental rest – quieting a busy mind
💛 Emotional rest – being real without masking
👥 Social rest – time with people who restore you
📵 Sensory rest – less noise, screens & stimulation
🎨 Creative rest – inspiration without pressure
🙏 Spiritual rest – connection, purpose & meaning

Sometimes the question isn’t “Why am I so tired?”
It’s “What kind of rest am I missing?
