Direct links to speed, and a real time marker for what happens when you put force into the ground.

Most people leak significant amounts of force into the ground, purely as their tissues (muscles , ligaments, tendons) are not conditioned to effectively manage the force demands.

What’s the most effective way to improve this attribute in the “untrained” athlete, or a mature athlete that’s only even done “general” gym based training?

Strength, and building lots of it in the primary movement patterns.

Then?

After elevating your maximum force output capacity, THEN focus on rate of force production.

Get your priorities right for speed and development of your capacity to be explosive as an athlete, which is the game changing attribute YOU really need to develop.

How often it happens, you see your physio or rehab specialist but have to navigate the most important element of your return to play program solo, the implementation of their parameters.

Sometimes you get a written training program from them.

But what happens if something isn’t quite right and that program needs adjustment.

How can you be sure that every element of your performance has been tested to ensure your program considers your total body outputs?

Are you pushing too hard, or can you be extended beyond that program?

What happens if you miss a session, are fatigued, does that session stay the same or does it need modification?

Research shows that session by session support fast-tracks your rehabilitation and gets you back playing sooner with far better outcomes.

The missing piece of your puzzle for optimal rehabilitation is engaging with a sports science team that compliments your specialist care.

Don’t sacrifice the quality of your rehab outcomes.

Your number one priority to get fast?

Increase your force production capacity, in other words, get super strong.

Remember, the delivery phase for sprinting only utilises around half of your maximal force output capacity.

And given the large majority athletes aren’t meeting strength benchmarks, why are we all focusing so hard on rate of force production?

The fact is, the stronger you are, the more explosive and powerful you CAN be, there’s a much higher ceiling for elevating your performance with this mindset for the majority of athletes with a relatively low training age.

It’s sports science, not guesswork.

If you aren’t doing these or building towards them, you are seriously missing the point!

1. Bilateral squat patterns, the benchmark for most sports and strength development worldwide.

2. Olympic lifting derivatives, at the least a rock-solid power clean and power sn**ch.

3. Eccentric hinge patterns, amazing for development of effecting deceleration and braking.

4. Loaded pattern challenging hip extension, knee extension, and ankle plantar flexion, a must-have for transferring strength into power.

5. Trunk and posterior chain strength development in frontal, sagittal, and rotational planes.

The basics don’t go out of fashion, but sometimes get lost in the flashy world of social media.

Get your priorities right.
