🦵 VEINS, DVTs & LIPOEDEMA — COULD THERE BE A CONNECTION?

Recently, I have seen an increase in patients presenting with a DVT (deep vein thrombosis)

So the question is… WHY?

There are several factors that I believe need to be considered:

🔹 Some types of lipoedema are associated with significant venous disease, which may increase the risk of venous complications.

🔹 Some newer devices and treatments on the market can be quite aggressive or work very deeply. What may be appropriate for one person may not necessarily be suitable for tissue affected by lipoedema or lymphoedema.

🔹 New medications and supplements can have unexpected effects, including potentially influencing clotting risk.

🔹 Changes in oestrogen levels may also be an important factor. In one recent case, increased oestrogen was identified as a possible contributor to a DVT.

🚨 But one of the biggest concerns is awareness.

Some patients had not been adequately informed about the warning signs and symptoms of a DVT or when they should seek urgent medical assessment.

KNOW YOUR VEINS. KNOW YOUR RISK.

As part of a comprehensive lipoedema assessment, I can assess your type and presentation of lipoedema, identify signs that may suggest excessive venous involvement, discuss factors that could be contributing to your symptoms, and educate you about the warning signs of DVT.

If you have lipoedema or lymphoedema, understanding your venous health is an important part of managing your condition.

⚠️ If you develop symptoms that could indicate a DVT, seek urgent medical assessment. A DVT can be serious and should not be self-diagnosed or managed at home.

Don’t just treat the swelling — understand WHY it is happening.

NewLymLotion Testimonial

Hi Kristin,

I've attached some close-up photos of my brother's back.
My brother broke out in these little red rashes on his back, chest, stomach, sides and upper arms. They were not itchy or bothering him; our GP said it looks like dermatitis that has developed from him being hot and sweaty in the shirts he was wearing.

He recommended cotton shirts and diprosone ointment. I used your NewLymLotion on him after a shower each day. On day one, it was quite red; the next day, after using the lotion, it faded to pink in colour, then on days two and three it faded even more. It has now cleared up. His skin looks great thanks to your miracle lotion.

Thank you for all of your help and support.

🦴 LIPOEDEMA & YOUR BONE HEALTH — SOMETHING EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW! 🦴

Did you know that women with lipoedema may be at increased risk of low bone density (osteopenia), which can be a precursor to osteoporosis?

A DEXA scan is a simple test that measures bone density and can help identify changes before they become a bigger problem. 💗

You may be advised to have a DEXA scan if you have risk factors such as:

🔹 Becoming shorter or noticing a change in height
🔹 A history of chemotherapy
🔹 A fall or fracture in the last 2 years
🔹 Early menopause
🔹 Irregular menstrual cycles
🔹 Taking medications that may reduce bone density

But here’s why I’m sharing my own experience…

I had none of these obvious risk factors, but I do have lipoedema and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, both of which can be relevant to connective tissue and musculoskeletal health.

So, I decided to pay $90 for my own DEXA scan. I had the scan on Friday — and by Monday morning, my doctor had urgently contacted me to make an appointment to discuss the results and my options. 🩺

⚠️ This is why I believe women need to be proactive about their bone health.

You don’t necessarily need to wait until you have symptoms, a fall or a fracture before starting the conversation.

💗 Ask your doctor whether a DEXA scan is appropriate for you.

Knowing your bone density gives you information — and early awareness may provide an opportunity to take steps to protect your bones and potentially slow further bone loss.

I’m sharing this because I want every woman with lipoedema to understand that looking after your lymphatic and connective tissue health is only part of the picture — your bones matter too. 🦴💗

Knowledge allows you to be proactive.

Please speak with your GP or treating health professional about your individual risk factors and whether a DEXA scan is appropriate for you. This post is for education and awareness and is not a diagnosis or substitute for medical advice.

💜 Living proof that managing Lipoedema is about more than just treating the legs.

I live with Stage 2, Type 2 Phlebo-lipoedema, along with multiple complex health conditions, including Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD), Oesophageal Spasms, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), Raynaud's Syndrome, Sjögren's Syndrome, Alopecia, Tinnitus, Chronic Fatigue, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), Left Leg Neuropathy, Retinoschisis and Osteoarthritis.

Despite these challenges, I have successfully managed my health for many years.

✨ My Lipoedema and venous disease have not progressed.
✨ My blood test results are consistently within normal ranges.
✨ My major organs are functioning at their highest capacity.
✨ I don't take medication for these conditions.
✨ I don't rely on compression pumps.
✨ I only need to see my doctor every six months for routine monitoring.

Over the years, I've learned that effective management isn't about finding a single "magic" treatment—it's about understanding how the body works as a whole and addressing the factors that influence each condition.

This is the same approach I share with my patients. My goal is to help people better understand their conditions, develop practical strategies to manage them, and improve their quality of life through evidence-informed care in collaboration with their medical team.

💜 Every person's health journey is unique, but with the right education, support, and management plan, meaningful improvements are possible.

Before we understood Lipoedema, many people believed the fat they could see and feel was simply a weight issue.

💜 But what if that fat is actually the result of an underlying process that has been developing for years before it becomes visible?

Emerging research is changing the way we understand Lipoedema.

📚 According to Viana, Invitti & Schor (2026), Lipoedema is proposed to be a disorder of the stromal environment—the supportive framework within our tissues that plays an important role in how cells function, communicate, and respond to injury.

This means Lipoedema may involve much more than fat alone. It may affect multiple structures and pathways within the body long before the characteristic fat deposits appear.

💡 I have a new educational chart that explains:
✔️ What the stromal environment is
✔️ How it may contribute to Lipoedema
✔️ Which tissues and body systems may be affected
✔️ Why understanding the underlying processes is so important for assessment and management

This information is now being shared with both my online and in-clinic patients as part of their education, helping them better understand why Lipoedema develops—not just what they can see.

Knowledge is empowering, and the more we understand the science behind Lipoedema, the better equipped we are to make informed decisions about treatment and long-term care. 💜

✨ More evidence that Reid Sleeve compression garments really do work! 💙

Another wonderful result for a patient with later-stage Lipoedema and Lymphoedema.

🌙 After wearing her Reid Sleeve compression garments at night for just one month, she has experienced:

✅ No pain
✅ Reduced swelling
✅ She can comfortably fit back into her old shoes!

These are the kinds of improvements that can make such a difference to everyday life.

🏆 At the Lipoedema Summit 2026, padded compression garments were voted as the preferred option for night-time use for people living with Lipoedema, recognising the comfort and therapeutic benefits they provide while you sleep.

Every patient is different, but it's always encouraging to see positive outcomes in such a short period of time.

💙 Better comfort. Better function. Better quality of life.
