✨ Wishing a very Happy Father's Day to all our awesome Dads, Stepdads, Grandfathers and father figures! ✨

We remember also the Dads and father figures who are no longer with us, those whose relationship with their father is strained, fathers who have lost a child and fathers who are separated from their children. ❤️

Thanks to The Growing Space for running this workshop on the 17th of September. It’s a great idea to start preparing well in advance for these changes as your child with disability becomes a teen and then suddenly becomes an adult!

For more info and to book: www.thegrowingspace.com.au/events

💥 NEW workshop: Becoming an Adult!
🎂 What happens when your child with disability turns 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 21 - and why does so much of it happen without anyone telling YOU?

✅ No one gives you a checklist for what you need to do as your child with disability becomes a teen and adult, so we made one and built a workshop around it too!

📝 Sam will go through, age by age, what changes and what you need to do - the money families miss, the accounts and cards that get much harder to sort after a certain birthday, and the days your rights as a parent vanish!

👇 Some of these tips include:

1️⃣💰 Know what changes at 13, 14, 15, 16, 18 and 21 - there are important changes at each of these ages!

2️⃣🏦 Get the bank account and tax file number sorted before the window closes.

3️⃣📝 Move from child representative to NDIS nominee without a gap.

4️⃣🏥 Handle the Medicare changes and the paediatric hand-over before it becomes an issue.

5️⃣⚖️ Understand decision-making, capacity and the law - least restrictive options first.

6️⃣🎓 Plan for life after school - work, study, adult child maintenance, ID and voting.

📂 The Becoming an Adult Resource Kit has the slides, peer session recording, auto transcription and more practical tips, checklists and resources to guide you as your child with disability becomes a teen and then, overnight, an adult!

💻 LIVE WORKSHOP:

📆 Thursday 17 September, 9:30am-11:30am (SA Time)

💵 Cost: $168.90 (you can choose the best fit line item/support category for your invoice)

📩 You can send the invoice to your plan manager for payment or reimbursement, or claim as a self-manager if it is in line with your plan.

🔗 For more info and to book, visit our Kits & Workshops tab on our website (we will also put the link in the comments).

Pic desc: A light-purple poster with a cartoon baby, teenager and adult. White text reads, “Becoming an adult. A kit for parents on what to do at 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18 (all. the. paperwork) as your child with disability becomes a teen and then, overnight, an adult!” Sam’s caricature is to the left, and The Growing Space logo is at the bottom.

Starting School in 2027?

Our Transition to School Group is designed to help children build the skills, confidence and independence they need for a successful start to Kindergarten.

Delivered by our Specialist Educator and Occupational Therapist, this small group program focuses on school readiness skills including fine motor development, following instructions, transitions, visual supports and everyday independence.

Open to all families, with priority given to current Firstchance families.

Children starting in a support class in 2027 haven't been forgotten. We're also taking Expressions of Interest for a dedicated January School Holiday Transition to School Program.

Places are limited. Contact our team to learn more or register today.
