Can laser tattoo removal damage your skin? 👀

It’s a common concern, and understandably so, you want the tattoo gone, not damaged skin left behind.

When tattoo removal is performed correctly, using the right laser, appropriate settings and enough healing time between sessions, the risk of permanent skin damage is low.

Problems are more likely to occur when treatments are too aggressive, the wrong settings are used, sessions are performed too close together, or aftercare isn’t followed properly.

It’s also why we assess your skin before every treatment and won’t go ahead if we don’t believe it’s safe to do so.

Removing the ink is important, but protecting the skin underneath it will always come first. 🤝

What tattoo colours make removal specialists a little more cautious? 👀

It’s not that certain colours “scare” us, it’s that some pigments can be unpredictable when they interact with a laser.

Red pigments can sometimes trigger reactions, while white and cosmetic inks can behave differently depending on what’s actually in the pigment. Some can even darken rather than lighten when treated.

That’s exactly why you’ll hear us talk about test spots so often.

Before treating an entire area, particularly cosmetic tattoos, we want to see how your pigment and skin respond first. It gives us valuable information before deciding on the safest way forward.

Tattoo removal shouldn’t be a case of lying down and starting the laser five minutes later.

A thorough consultation, realistic expectations, test spots where appropriate, and having all your questions answered should come before treatment begins. 🤝

It’s one of the biggest concerns we hear before someone starts their tattoo removal journey, but most clients tell us the same thing afterwards, it wasn’t as bad as they expected.

The sensation is often described as a quick flick or snap against the skin, and the good news is, the laser itself works pretty quickly. 💥

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, so if it’s something you’re nervous about, we can also talk you through pain management options, including numbing cream, during your free consultation.

Don’t let the fear of pain be the thing that stops you from getting started. 🤝

Sometimes, the right treatment decision is not treating at all.

We recently had to reschedule a client because her skin was still tanned from sun exposure. Going ahead might have kept the appointment on schedule, but it also would have meant unnecessarily increasing the risk of pigmentation and compromising her skin.

It’s never a conversation we enjoy having, but your skin will always come before an appointment.

We’d much rather reschedule, allow your skin the time it needs, and treat you when it’s safe to do so than take a risk for the sake of getting a session done.

A good clinic should know when to treat, but more importantly, they should know when not to. 🤝

Your results matter, but protecting your skin throughout the entire process matters just as much.
