NEW GUIDE: How to Access Home Care Funding

Support at Home is now the main government-funded program for older Australians who need help at home - but depending on your situation, it may not be the only funding pathway available.

Now, there's extra funding available for things like:

• Assistive technology, such as mobility aids, shower chairs or other equipment
• Home modifications, such as grab rails, ramps or safer bathroom access
• Short-term restorative care after a fall, illness or hospital stay
• End of life support at home

We’ve created a new guide to help explain what these funding pathways are, who they’re for, and how to access them.
Inside, we walk through:

• What funding is available
• What services and supports it can cover
• Who may be eligible
• How the process works
• What to ask your provider or assessor

Click below to download your copy, or give one of our friendly home care experts a call and we'd be happy to chat about it with you.

For many people and families, conversations about palliative and end-of-life care can feel difficult to start.

But talking earlier can help make sure a person’s wishes are understood before decisions become urgent.

This week is National Palliative Care Week, with the focus on “Getting to the heart of it: Big Questions. Real Answers.”

For older Australians receiving care at home, this can include questions like:
❓What matters most to me as my needs change?
❓Where would I feel most comfortable being cared for?
❓Who do I want involved in decisions about my care?
❓What support would help my family or carers feel less alone?

This week is a reminder that these conversations do not need to happen all at once. But starting early can make a meaningful difference.

If you’re wondering how to start a conversation about palliative care, Palliative Care Australia has put together a helpful video.

We’re excited to introduce Long Service Legends - a new way we’re recognising and celebrating the incredible people who make a difference every day across Harbour at Home.

First up, we’re shining a light on Debbie, our Care Quality, Training & Support Manager!

Debbie has been working in aged care since 2003, bringing with her a wealth of experience across nursing, leadership, and training.

From starting as a trainee to managing a nursing home, her career has always been driven by one thing—helping people.

Today, Debbie plays a hands-on role supporting both staff and clients. Whether it’s training new team members, checking in with support workers, or making sure care is delivered the right way for each individual, she’s always tthere to help.

“I make time for everyone. I want to know everything that's going on, because that’s how we support people properly.”

Debbie is passionate about helping staff grow. She pairs new team members with the right people, supports them in the field, and is a huge part in building confidence and capability within the team.

One moment she’s especially proud of is supporting a new worker who felt overwhelmed when starting out. Debbie worked closely alongside her for three months until she found her feet.

“Now she’s one of our most popular workers. She even brought her daughter on to work at Harbour!”

She’s also proud of the culture at Harbour at Home. “We’ve built an environment where people aren’t afraid to ask for help. We support each other—and when our staff feel supported, our clients do too.”

Her approach is simple: stay flexible, stay hands-on, and do whatever it takes to support the team. “Every day is different—you just have to adapt.”

And if something needs doing? Debbie’s already onto it. “I cleaned the whole office the other week—it didn’t worry me!”

Debbie, thank you for everything you bring to Harbour At Home. Your leadership, care, and commitment make a real difference.

This Christmas, we decided to forgo our usual office Secret Santa
and instead come together to collect a basket of goodies, along
with essential personal hygiene products, to support those in need.

On the morning of 22nd December, we delivered our donation to a
local homeless shelter, Pete’s Place.

They were incredibly grateful and welcoming, and it truly warmed our hearts to know that our basket of goodies will be put to good use.

After our charity box was filled, we were also fortunate enough to put together two additional gift bags.

We chose to gift these to one of our clients who is doing it tough this Christmas and has limited family support at this time.

We hope these small gestures help bring a little comfort, kindness,
and festive cheer during the season.

We are so thrilled to announce that we've won the Excellence in Business Award at the Coffs Coast Business Awards!

The award celebrates businesses that continue to grow, adapt and deliver exceptional outcomes.

For us, it represents the commitment of our entire team to supporting people across the Coffs Coast with dependable, local home care.

In true Harbour at Home style, when our General Manager Graham couldn’t be there on the day, we brought his cardboard cut-out along so he could still be part of the celebrations. It became a bit of a crowd favourite. 🤣

A huge thank you to all our staff, clients and partners who have made this happen. We're so grateful we get to spend our time supporting Coffs Harbour and making days brighter.

If you'd like to talk to a local (award-winning 😉 ) provider who can help support your home care needs, get in touch with us today!

Recently, the Harbour At Home team had the pleasure of visiting our lovely client Ann!

Ann has gone above and beyond helping her friends find the right support at home with us — and today, we had the pleasure of thanking her in person.

She received two $300 vouchers as a thank you for referring two new Home Care Package recipients, who’ve now joined Harbour at Home and are getting the support they need to continue living independently at home.

Her kindness doesn’t stop there — she’s also helped connect several new CHSP clients who are now getting the help they need.

The care that Ann shows for others is truly inspiring — she’s a wonderful example of how kindness and community spirit can make such a big difference.

The Government has announced the release of an extra 20,000 Home Care Packages between now and November!

This will help more older Australians access the support they need – and it comes ahead of the new Support at Home program launching in November.

We’re already reform-ready and set to help clients smoothly enter into the new Support at Home system.

Here’s why locals choose us:

✅ Local care, familiar faces – you’ll see the same trusted support staff each visit.

✅ Direct access to your Care Manager – no call centres, no waiting in queues.

✅ Support at Home ready – so you can be confident the change over will be simple

If you want to be with a provider who's ready for the changes and puts you first, get in touch with us below.

Exciting news - we’ve been selected as a finalist for the 2025 Coffs Coast Business Awards in the Excellence in Business category!

These awards celebrate businesses across the Coffs Harbour region who have delivered outstanding service and made a real difference in their community.

It’s been an incredible year for Harbour At Home. In the last 12 months we’ve:

✅ Supported more seniors than ever before to remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes.

✅ Created more permanent, secure jobs for local people – ensuring seniors see the same familiar, trusted faces.

✅ Secured a CHSP grant to extend support to those waiting for, or unable to access, a Home Care Package.

And through it all, we’ve guided our clients and their families through the biggest aged care reforms in decades.

A huge thank you to our incredible team for their dedication, to our clients for trusting us with their care, and to the Coffs Harbour Chamber of Commerce for celebrating what makes our community so special.

Fingers crossed for the finals! ✨
