Travel, long periods of sitting, stress, hormonal changes, poor sleep, dehydration and processed foods can all slow lymphatic flow and contribute to fluid retention, puffiness and that heavy, uncomfortable feeling.

That’s why holidays and time away can be the perfect opportunity to reset your body and support your lymphatic system.

Simple daily habits can make a real difference:

• Stay hydrated and replenish electrolytes
• Walk daily to encourage lymph flow
• Elevate your legs for 10–15 minutes
• Finish showers with cool water on your legs
• Dry brush before showering
• Enjoy lymph-supportive herbal teas such as dandelion, nettle, ginger or green tea
• Book a lymphatic drainage treatment to help reduce fluid retention and support circulation.

As oestrogen declines, from 38 women can experience reduced muscle mass, slower metabolism, increased fluid retention, bloating and changes in circulation. That’s why strength training becomes even more important.

Strong legs help:

• Support healthy lymphatic flow .
• Reduce fluid retention and feelings of heaviness
• Support metabolism and healthy blood sugar balance
• Maintain muscle mass as we age
• Improve strength, mobility and independence

I personally include leg training in my routine each week, along with incline walking, anti-inflammatory nutrition, hydration and lymphatic drainage techniques.

As a Naturopath in my 50s navigating menopause myself, I’ve learnt that supporting my lymphatic & gut isn’t about perfection it’s about the small things I do consistently every day.

My personal lymphatic & gut routine includes Pilates Reformer, daily walking, strength training, abdominal lymphatic massage, castor oil packs, lymphatic herbal teas, nourishing whole foods and targeted supplements.

Many years ago I struggled with Candida, bloating, constipation and weight gain. Addressing my gut health, reducing Candida overgrowth and supporting my lymphatic system played a significant role in helping me lose 12kg, improve my energy and feel like myself again.

This journey is one of the reasons I became a Naturopath because when I changed my gut health, it changed my life.

Your gut does more than digest food !

One of my favourite health books is The Gut-Brain Paradox by Dr. Gundry. I love that it’s evidence-based and explores the fascinating connection between the gut microbiome, the brain and overall health.

The research shows that our gut microbes may influence mood, hormones, brain health, inflammation and wellbeing in ways we’re only beginning to fully understand.

As a Naturopath, I often explain that the gut, immune system and lymphatic system are closely connected. Supporting your microbiome may help reduce inflammation, support immune health and take some of the burden off the lymphatic system.

This topic is especially close to my heart because improving my own gut health changed everything for me from reducing my bloating & headaches , to improving my energy, mood and reducing abdominal weight. It’s one of the reasons I became a Naturopath and am so passionate about helping others uncover the root causes of their health concerns.
